Best book I ever read when I was a kid. Maybe that was because it is so not a kids book. I plan on reading it again to see if it is as great as I remember

This was entertaining but I didn't love it. In fact I got bored halfway through, but it did pick up and by the end I liked it. He didn't really introduce any strong personalities until the middle/end so it took me that long to get attached to some of the people. I'm willing to give his other books a chance. But one thing I am a bit confused on: it's considered non-fiction BUT he creates this "character" that's not 100 % him (he uses a different name than his own etc...)- so it all left me wondering how much of it was really true, which annoys me.

I could smack myself for letting this book sit on the bookshelf in my basement for the better part of 3 years. I bought it on a whim and never got around to reading it. Even now I only read because it is in consideration as a required reading for my high school students. However, I don't think I could be more pleased with this book. It was so cleverly crafted, the scenes so thoughtfully laid and the plot twists so greatly incorporated that I am thrilled to know it is a young adult novel. I have complained that many YA novels are poorly contrived, slow and repetitive. The Hunger Games has none of these blunders. Suzanne Collins forces you to love this somewhat tough and almost unloveable main character, Katniss, who has lived to provide and protect her family since she was 11 years old. Now 16 years old, she is faced with the harsh reality of an edict imposed by ruthless and heartless government. Although Katniss has chosen her path, it is be a difficult and treacherous one. Throughout the story I could not help but feel sympathy for Katniss and the possible ramifications for her family. My sympathy for Katniss was two fold, though. The obvious first half is the dire situation of the Hunger Games, but ultimately I felt more sad for the cyncism she felt for those around her and thier actions. To say the Katniss is untrusting would be an understatement. I truly do not want to give any plot details away, so I will end my review here. I throughly enjoyed this novel and am eagerly plowing forward into the sequel, Catching Fire!

This is no BS theory here, it's a super thick read. I'm only about 40 pages into it but it's really interesting. It's been in my purse serving as my commuter read, but I may have to move it to my desk as it's a little heavy to just pick up for 20 minutes. This is not for the faint of heart, but instead for readers who are well versed in musicology and hip hop studies.

It really is the greatest novel ever written. I have never been sadder than when I finally finished the book, because I felt as though I wanted to be engrossed in this story forever. The characters are so lifelike, Tolstoy's understanding of human thought and emotion so precise, that every page can engross no matter what the pace or emotional tenor of the narrative. Pevear and Volokhonsky are elegant translators whose prose is never awkward, incongruous, or overwrought, leaving you to appreciate the lyricism without getting hung up on the text itself. If it weren't so damn heavy to carry around with me all day, I'd want to reread this book forever.

I read this book because it was mentioned prominently in my favorite dan bern song. I didn't understand it at the time, and I was put off by all the misogyny. Looking back, though, I guess I get it. It's just a story about a guy who messed up a good thing for stupid reasons, and he can't really conceive of a Plan B. So he's just kinda floating through life not knowing what to do (and being a jerk about it).

The story of five women that meet every first Tuesday of the month in a French restaurant. When one of the women's husband dies the friends gather around to support the widow. They even go so far as to go on a pilgrimage to Lourdes together. Underway way they discover far more about themselves and each other than they thought possible.
I love this book. Because it so simple to understand and to do the steps. If your not seeing manifestation from the book, it is because your not applying it to your life or your not doing what you read long enough.
