My all-time favorite book. I absolutely love the theory of Objectivism, and wish I could actually buy into it. Unfortunately I like to actually help people... But that aside, I love Ayn Rand for how she develops and presents her philosophical theories in novel form. Her gorgeously descriptive narrative is in full force here, as is her character development; even the second time through, I had a hard time putting down this book. She has done a beautiful job weaving her characters' lives and beliefs in and out of each other. I also love Atlas Shrugged, but Rand's use of both architecture and journalism (two of my true loves) as her characters' mediums for showing their philosophical stances really resonated with me here. Rand was able to transport the reader to another time here, a time where monumental buildings were being resurrected by monumental people; I immediately think of Howard Roark every time I step foot near an Art Deco building in New York, and that says something. The Fountainhead is an undertaking, but it's worth it every time, I think. I mean, I named my car after the main character, Roark!

After reading and loving The Breadwinner and Parvana's Journey, I was looking forward to this book. It is good, but a bit slow at the start with a lot of characters to sort through. Senzai has a good story, however, and once you're into it, you don't want to stop. While a bit pedantic at times, I still found it worthwhile. It's a quick-read, too.
