I give this book five stars because it is so wonderfully terrible that I couldn't help but love it. I have read a lot of bad books in my time (trashy fantasy is one of my most delectable guilty pleasures), but this, THIS is one of those in which you can reflect on its ridiculousness and simply revel in it.

Disappointing and absolutely silly. Sci-fi for those who think it's all ray guns and space ships, so why not just make it all a joke.

Good job by Simmons who brings a depth to any story he writes.

Interesting historical accounts based in biblical times about the story of Joseph and Rachel. Really interesting to learn about ancient tribes, families, and the role of women.

Things that would have made me like this book better: 1. If I would have been reading it aloud to a 10-year-old. It would have been fun to giggle with a kid over some of the dialogue, and the sentences were short and well-constructed, making it a perfect read-aloud book. 2. If I had known all the fairy tales Gail Carson Levine was parodying. I was only familiar with a couple of them -- and I like retellings when I can appreciate them as retellings. As plain ol' stories, they're just a little weird. 3. If all 6 stories hadn't been in one book (yeah, I know, that was the point). But I felt compelled to read the whole thing start-to-finish, and Good Lord, as fun as these stories were, THEY GOT SO REPETATIVE. 4. If I hadn't moved straight (no pun intended) from Fairy Tales: Traditional Stories Retold for Gay Men to this one. I think I was Fairy-Taled out. Gail's quirky characters and her sense of humor were what kept me going, because there wasn't a lot of originality as far as the storytelling went. Still, I'm keeping this book around for that fateful day when I can hopefully read it aloud to someone. :) ***

Steven James in his new book, "The Queen" Book Five in the Patrick Bowers series published by Revell brings us to Wisconsin for this installment. While this is fifth in the series it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone with no knowledge of what has come before. Patrick Bowers is in Wisconsin trying to find a suspect that might lead him to Basque, who escaped previously. While still on this investigation he is sent to investigate a double homicide and possible suicide. On top of this someone is trying to break into the military database to start a nucleaur war, there is an assasin running loose and a mastermind that seems to be running all of this. This is what Patrick is dealing with professionally. Then he still has to deal with seeing his brother and sister-in-law for the first time in years and Tessa, his daughter, might be trapped in a raging snowstorm. Steven James loads his high octane thriller with so much misinformation and deceit that it takes a lot of concentration just to keep your head above water. The book races along at lightening speed and all the characters are put their paces trying to solve this homicide spree and put all the pieces together. Mr. James does just not write about evil to magnify it; no, he writes about evil to show how it can be fought, contained and triumphed over. He writes about the beauty of relationships and the rewards that come from true, real ones. He writes about a God who saw the need of humanity and came down and rescued us from our own mess. This, along with serial killers, is what you get with a Steven James -Patrick Bowers mystery. I am glad I found him and look forward to next years offering. One of the best trilogies I have yet to read. Something was always happening. If there was ever a dull moment, it was never long enough to be boring.

It is surprisingly rare to find books that actually reflect the times we live in and this is one of them. Dysfunction is such a buzz word and I think, we all believe we live in a dysfunctional family, and yet it is rarely reflected in modern novels. Frazen writes effectively about familiar dysfunction, self loathing, and that strange love and disgust we often feel for our families (or at least I feel). Bravo.

Loved everything about Rome under Augustus, Tiberus, Caligula and eventually, clau-clau-cladius. The love, murder, political intrigue, scandals, debauchery - you name it - these books have it.

Harika kitap. Onun bakış açısından Hilary üzerinde güzel bir arka plan verir.
