I really enjoyed this novel about a castrato boy (the book includes maybe a little too much description on how that came about) who eventually becomes a famous opera singer in the 1700's. It was a page turner, but I was disappointed when it ended, as I would have liked to have had more about the various characters and their interactions.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 because of the weak beginning to the plot, though it could earn 5 out of 5; however, I found that fact that a 21 year old woman would break off an engagement to a wonderful man and estrange herself from an adoring family just because she finds out that she is adopted. Setting herself on a path of pain and feelings of bitterness. Her search for her past is honorable but she could have had the help of her adoptive parents and siblings. Further on if you push past this annoying detail you will discover a book beautifully written of fairy tales and sad memories that haunt every sentence.
