I am normally not interested in thrillers but this novel was chosen for my monthly book club. I particularly enjoyed how the author took a peek into the Amish society in northern Ohio that was affected by multiple tragedies in this work of fiction. This lifestyle is fascinating to me. I have learned this book is the first in a series that follows the main character. I am surprised that I am intrigued to read on.

I can't describe how much I enjoyed this book. Loved it...no. Adored it...that's not right either. Gave myself a bit of insomnia because I stayed up til the buttcrack of dawn reading it...yeah, that's about right. Darynda Jones is a clever little minx. Her characters come to life, love them or hate them. And the way she ends her books! I commend her for not falling into the same box as most authors who wrap up the story in a neat little happy ending. At the same time, I wanted to cry when the end came and there were nothing but blank pages after. No teaser for next time, Mrs. Jones? Damn temptress!

Excellent. A somewhat later volume that shows Hergé's increasing sophistication in regards to world events. No longer is he about stereotypes, but he actually seems to care about history and its impact on individuals. This is the result of influence from a Chinese student friend of his, who appears in this book and then in later books (Tintin in Tibet).
