Oddly, I became aware of this book while I was reading Time magazine. Apparently, later this year, they are going to make a movie out of it. For that reason and that reason only, I decided to read the book. I enjoyed it, but I had a few criticisms for it. For one thing, I hate it when the author does not give a character a name. In this book, he only names the protagonists the father and the son. Other than that, the book reminded me alot of Stephen Kings Cell because in Cell, people are traveling across the U.S. to try and escape from people driven mad by cell phones. The Road has the exact same concept minus the cell phone crazies. Other than that, I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys novels set in a dystopia.

This is a magnificent book. Anyone interested in Lincoln, the Civil War and American history in general will love this book. It is a long book, full of details and written so well by Doris Kearns Goodwin (one of my favorites) that I couldn't wait to pick it up again and start reading.

Author and poet, Phil McClean has produced a book of 80 poems. Contemporary poems that reflect, not the past, our history or lost loves but the present; today’s happenings and experiences, life in the twenty first century. Forever 21 is a reflection of life in general. I found the poetry lyrical. Many of the verses could be sung and some would make very good modern day lyrics. Sir James Montague on page 96 is one such verse or Never to Have Seen the sun page 84 with it’s repetitive chorus. Dark Lady page 138 is another. The chorus resounds, “You’ve got a rare thing- time on your side. You never rush, run or hide.” Some remind us of thing lost. Old Newspaper with its verse: I once was a star- now I’m yesterday’s news-And there is no longer a room with a view-Like it or not, there is nothing I can do. Others are candid snippets of the daily grind. Rush hour traffic is featured in ‘Drive’ on page 54. Stark realizations of the violence of life are revealed in ‘Some of Us’ page 36 where the poet expounds on street violence, guns and drugs, and college shootings. The book is not without its love and romance references, seen in Love Song I and This Key we Forged Together. Phil McClean generates descriptive and intense images with his writing. He stimulates the senses and obliges the reader to do some thinking. For a candid, creative and often musical read, pick up a copy of Forever 21. It is a book you will return to often. I adore greek mythology. If I could find a way to make a living out of studying it, I totally would (any suggestions?!), so anytime I see a modern greek god in a book, my insides get that much more happier, no matter what it's about, and they're always top my list of books to get! So, putting on my rose-tinted mythology glasses, I started to read The Goddess Test by debut author Aimee Carter. Read rest of the review here http://rachellikesbooks.blogspot.com/...

The soap opera of Rome's leadership in the era of empire goes from bad to worse. A must read that happens to entertain as well as inform. From the dignified grace of Augustus to the cruel debauchery of Nero, this history chronicles all the vices and virtues of the first twelve rulers of Imperial Rome. The Twelve Caesars was written based on the information of eyewitnesses and public records. It conveys a very accurate picture of court life in Rome and contains some of the raciest and most salacious material to be found in all of ancient literature. The writing is clear, simple, and easy to understand, and the numerous anecdotes of juicy scandal, bitter court intrigue, and murderous brigandage easily hold their own against the most spirited content of today's tabloids.
