Otavan taskuromaani from the 1960's - Vintage reading! There were sooo many characters who interacted a lot. Difficult to follow. A lot of interactions, and yet the story was very simple and flat. I would have liked a bit more background on the actual wrongdoings that were the cause for the murders.

"Goldilocks" is apart of the two short stories in the Rabbit Ears series, its counterpart being "Red Riding Hood." Everybody knows the whole story about what happens between Goldilocks and the Three Bears, so I won't go into that. For the audio version, Meg Ryan's narration is sweet and she adds a southern accent to further bring out the creativity in this story. Art Lande's music is old fashioned, yet jazzy at the same time, providing a modern beat to this old fairy tale. For this book, Lazlo Kubinyi's illustrations are beautiful as Goldilocks is illustrated as a golden hair young child who sports southern style clothing. "Goldilocks" is an instant treat for anyone who is a fan of Meg Ryan and fairy tales.

This book is NOT for the faint of heart. The author is very graphic when it comes to injuries of the dogs and the way Michael Vick and his Bad News team killed dogs who lost dog fights. The only monsters in this book is Michael vick and his dof fighting crew. The pit Bulls are just helpless animals. I was happy to hear that some of the micahel vick dogs were rehabilitated and are doing well. The author did very detailed research on each dog and each facility that helped the animals. The book was filled with plenty of details to help you get an understanding of the rescuers and the dogs.

It seems that the author did quite a bit of research, but his conclusions & assertions don't necessarily follow from the research. I am as anti-fast food as anyone, I think, and have been really interested in reading this book, but true nonfiction should be written in a fair, unbiased way and there are logical arguments that work and arguments that are based on logical fallacies. Very poorly done.

Imagine a town where the only thing in town that people thought about, fought about, cared about, talked about, and that really mattered to people was high school football. Well that town is Odessa, Texas, where Permian Panther football is more than just a game. Friday Night Lights by H. G. Bissinger’s is book about the people in Odessa and how their powerhouse football team means everything to them. The ups and downs for the football team mean the ups and downs for the town. This is a town where the football team is given and matters about a thousand times more than any academic department. This book takes place during the 1988 season when Permian has the talent to do well, but with that talent comes the high expectations of winning state. Which for head coach Gary Gaines comes with a lot of pressure, but there is also a lot of pressure on the players. This is a lot of pressure for a seventeen year old kid to handle. Even a single non-conference loss comes with a lot of criticism and anger, not to mention a loss inside the conference. This is a great book about this high school football team’s journey through a tough season with the reaction of the town. I recommend this book to anyone who likes football.
