Pretty incredible. This book is hilarious, depressing and contains multitudes. One of this novel's many feats is its author's ability to make you see a peice of yourself in each of the characters EVEN AS you are laughing at them and loathing them. I'm going to turn out like Chip. Please don't let me turn out like Chip :)

Excellent first novel from Stina Leicht. Dark urban fantasy set in Northern Ireland during the 1970s, Stina has skilfully woven a tale of The Troubles and a war between the Fey, the Fallen and the Catholic Church - a fresh, new approach to the genre. Her extensive research and empathy towards such controversial subject matter is very obvious. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

I just thought the plot was trying too hard and seemed really contrived. I know this was written by a twelve year old - and it's great and all, but I have a problem with talking animals when the setting and civilization don't match it. I'm not saying I could do any better, but the pacing was bad enough that I felt I had to mention it. The other thing that annoyed me to no end was how she said somewhere in the author's note, " At the [mere] age of ten, I spent hours..." because she wrote this just 2 years later than when she spent hours "at the [mere] age of 10". This leads me to my last point: the writing was stiff, formal, and a bit stuffy. Note to Nancy Fan: Good try and it's great you got your writing published.
