I give it 4 1/2 stars. I loved reading this book, even though it took months and I would sometimes go for a week without getting very far and there were so many characters and plots that I would forget what had happened and get confused. This book does not follow a linear narrative, it can be hard to follow. But the characters are real, the stories are amazing, and the writing is excellent. I feel like a better person for having read this book. The Bronx, Lenny Bruce, the shot heard round the world, it reads like a lesson in american culture with a little politics thrown in.

A new way of thinking about parenting for me. I really enjoyed this book and got a lot of great ideas. I would recommend it to anyone with kids, although it is written from an LDS perspective and some of it wouldn't resonate as much with non-LDS. Most of it is applicable to all parents, though.

The first novel is a great re-working of the dragon story: filled with the naval milieu of the time, at least 2-d characters, and some wonderful action. Books 2 and 3 are fine but lack the vim and vigor of the first.

Louie's story was interesting, but not well told by the author. There was a lot of detail, more than I care to have. I will probably not read another book by this author, as I felt the same way about Sea Biscuit.

This book is fascinating if you are at all into theatre and Richard Burton and want a glimpse into broadway acting in the 60's. I think it was the 60's anyway, been a while since I read the book. Anyway, you get the scoop on Richard Burton's relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, you get to know about Hamlet, and if you liked the book, you can watch Burton's performance on DVD, which I highly recommend.

Definitely not a happy uplifting book but one that deals with reality. I admit my ignorance on quite a bit of this history and feel this book enlightened me. I found it difficult in the beginning but it picked up as I went.

Excellent historical novel. A novel about the civil war from a woman's point of view. Can be graphic when it comes to medical and war scenes but realistic and historically accurate.
