** spoiler alert ** Chacun à son goût, and on the whole, I'm very grateful that it's so. I, for one, felt dismayed and ripped off at the end of this very lengthy story. The moral journey of the protagonist and the antagonists seemed aimless and incomplete, and I was frustrated by the ending, which seemed to me to resolve completely hastily and into a love relationship that deposited out of thin air like dry ice at the Martian South Pole. The best parts for me were the escape from the Chateau D'If and the (sadly under-exploited) secret hideaway on the island of Monte Cristo; the worst parts were the Baroque and interminable subplots in Italy and Paris. And the uebermenschlich powers of mind and body that resulted from the Count's opium addiction, a conceit that has lost something of it's capacity to support the willing suspension of disbelief in the centuries since first publication if you ask me. As I think about it, this was the first lengthy work that I read on my PDA (as a Project Gutenberg download). It may well have read better on paper.

Awesome, I really had to restrain myself from eating this book up in like two days. I swear, I forced myself to read another book and then come back to it. Finnick sounds so hot I was like "lawd he gonna have a horrible death!" and then stupid Johanna, I wanted her to die, but then I didn't want her to die, it was a love hate thing. Peeta's so sweet! As usual. ^^ And Katniss, love that girl! Anyway, this book was fantastic as we all expected it to be. I'm gonna read two more books before I go on to Mockingjay...man it's so hard to pace myself. <333
