Dark and darling, as we've all come to expect from Gaiman. I'm touched the Newbery committee finally decided to recognize him, but honestly, no better than his other works, and certainly not as ground-breaking nor as original as Sandman. (And not as good as Waiting for Normal.) Worth a read, though!

Okay..picked up this book at Costco b/c it was only $8.99. A friend of mine read all 3 of this series and swore by it. She said it does start slow and cumbersome but gets better. I took it along on vacation which forced me to read it. It took more than halfway through but it did finally pick up and keep my attention. I don't know that I'd call it "wildly suspenseful" as the Wash. Post says. But it is a good story. I look forward to reading the other 2 books in the series! May 2010 taking a break from this book as I got drawn into another book. Hope to get back to it before it's due back at the library next week! Got it back from the library and really tried to get into it and I just couldn't. Made it almost partway through and had to give up. Other books have been enticing me and calling me and I found myself dreading having to pick up this one.

I must say I was surprised by this Historical Romance. I'm used to there being a whirlwind romance after the instant attraction when the hero and heroine first meet. In this story however the attraction that grows between the lead characters is a slow, but steady thing. It is build step by step while Jason and Winnifred travel Europe and find themselves falling from one adventure into the next. It was different and rather sweet I must say. The villain of this story however is just as much a cardboard villain as in most Historical Romances that feature a villain, but as his presence is needed to send Jason and Winnifred on their journey, which is hilarious, daunting and above all very entertaining to read, I will not judge too harshly. So, while this book wasn't what I expected, I did enjoy it and I will probably try other books by Noble in the future.

this one was on the church table and looked interesting. it's deep and weighty, especially compared to Braun's Unpacking Forgiveness. It's full of wonderful food for thought that is not easily digested. Harder to pick up because of how much mental energy it takes. Making notes as I go to keep ideas easy to find.
