I enjoy sweeping thrillers that involve a lot of characters and locations. Steve Berry has, for the past four or five years, been kind of in the middle of my list of liked authors for this type of book. The Third Secret jumped him up a couple of notches. I'm not entirely sure why, but this book seemed much better to me than the others of his that I've read like The Amber Room and The Charlemagne Pursuit. (Of which, I liked the latter quite a bit and the former not so much.) I think it was that this book seemed better thought out from beginning to end. There were many more threads that started from the very beginning of the book and finally tied together into a single piece of cloth by the end. That's what keeps me excited and presses me to finish a book. This book is similar to Dan Brown's Angels and Demons in content. It surrounds secrets in the Vatican and a power hungry pope wannabe. I don't belong to an organized religion and I don't usually care to spend my free time studying/learning/whatevering one. It says a lot about a book about organized religion when I can get completely sucked in. That being said...like the Dan Brown books, The Third Order is critical of the Catholic Church. So if you're sensitive about such topics, I'd pass on this one. Otherwise, I found it to be a great story that was well-developed and well-told.

A different kind of crime novel for me anyway. This one told from the most good of the criminal kids growing up and wanting redemption. It's quite rough going for him through most of the book, but nevertheless, it's well done. And it is work your time if you're into real crime and the criminal mind.

Great book about a girl's journey in her relationship w/ God. Lauren Winner is a great author and thinker. Honest, intelligent, refreshing.

A Religious History of the American People will probably be on my "currently reading" list for about a million years. That's how big and heavy and long this book is. It's a classic, though, so if you're interested in American religious history (I am), then you should read it.

I wasn't so sure aboout this book when I first started reading it, but it really picked up. Such an interesting story about a very unique family structure. You really want Annie and Buster to succeed in life, despite the rather unusual way that there parents raised them. You haven't seen characters like the Fang Family before so give them a chance.

Absolutely devastating book. An unflinching look into humanity's darker motives wrapped around bio-weapons terrorism. Called shot factor: wrtten 20 years or more before relevant tech existed, reads as a very contemporary document. Also, beat King's The Stand by about 4 or 5 years and is a much more serious book.

I had an embarassingly scant knowledge of Burma before reading this book and now I want to go (though my conscience won't allow me). I was especially intrigued that Burma has such a high literacy rate...This book was also a nice "time travel experiment" through the George Orwell books I had read many years before.
