This may be a children's book, but Louis Sachar's humor can crack any adult up.

Well, it's between 3-4 stars I guess. I did not guess the plot outcome this time: there was an interesting twist near the end. I liked the Texas setting, but I would have liked more description, more atmosphere. I think I'm finding her books a little too stripped down, although that's preferable to overdone. Since she's wrapped up so many of Harper Connelly's issues, I wonder if she plans to write any more. I read on the Internet that she sold the development rights to these books to CBS--look for a series soon.

Me gusto mucho, aunque al principio era así como tedioso. Pero luego se pone muy bueno. Hay mucho misterio y así. *O* Tienen que leerlo.

So far, it is a great book that is heat felt and full for fantasy. I'm about half way through right now.

A great piece of YA historical fiction. I think it would make a great companion to Night by Elie Wiesel.

i read this because everyone else was reading it. here are some things i realized: joan didion lived a glamorous life, in the way that i'd like to live glamorously, but i don't think i'd like her if i met her. her style is absorbing, and i read this mostly in one sitting, but something about it also pushed me away. it's that mixture of openness - she's describing intensely personal feelings - and distance, and i'm not sure if that's just the nature of the subject she's writing about, if writing about grief demands distance and openness at the same time. maybe those who know her saw that same contradiction in her during that year, and she's just done a fantastic job of capturing her own emotions and her own presence. it was hard to read and hard to put down.

I think I would've liked it more if I had read it instead of listened to it on CD. His voice was ok, but it didn't get to me as much as if I had read it.
