Set in the same time period as my all time favorite The Sorcery and Cecelia by Caroline Stevermer and Patricia C. Wrede, but isn't even close to being as good. All the reviews I read mention Jane Austen and magic, which is completely accurate, and Kowal does an excellent job of catching the Austen tone. But I kept wondering what the point of including all the magic - it seemed really wasted. The magic in Sorcery and Cecelia seemed appropriate and added to the plot; but replace the word "glamor" with "art" and you'd still have the same story. Still, I finished the book, and I'd certainly read a sequel (if there is going to be one).

It was kind of a slow read for me. It had a good story line, but maybe it wasn't what I was in the mood for. However, it was good, and I'm happy I finished it.

This trilogy is a much darker trilogy that the first (and that's saying something) In these if you're familiar with Irish folklore I think you'll recognize a retelling of the Nuada or Silver Arm or Silver Hand, (King of the Tuatha Dé Danann) legend. Corum not being human has had to face the fact that he outlives any mortal be may love. Now again faced with a danger he must deal with he feels very alone, and is very vulnerable. These are much darker than the first trilogy (as I said) and the fact that I go 4 stars says something. They are well written and will (I believe) draw you in. The Irish flavor and melancholy are very evident here and the word "enjoy" might not apply, but they're well done.

Enjoyable, quick read. I wasn't a huge fan of the main character, but it seemed more realistic than too many of the idealized portraits I've read. Also, the whole nu-shu writing system was fascinating. Borrowed from Adria 'cause it's not in the SCCS library.

This novel is about a crazy sick girl. Not my normal subject matter, however it was very well written like poetry, and a fast interesting read. I am just happy that it had a good ending to it.

Now that I've read this, I can't remember what I was thinking when I bought it. It's written at a fifth grade level, is completely redundant, does not support any of it's arguments well and is slanted to sympathize with CEOs and corporations. I rolled my eyes about 5 times per page. Giant boo.

This book starts off so innocently that for a while you don't realise how sinister it really is. I love how everyday, normal teenage problems are set against such a scary and possible future. It is beautifully written.
