This book was everything I thought it would be and more. I was sucked straight into the story from the very first page and my attention did not waver. In fact, I ended up reading the entire book in a day - a feat for someone who lacks both time and patience. I realized pretty fast that this book was different from the usual YA books around. The story was very realistic and that is one of the attributes of a good author as opposed to a published author. Kawaga has a way of pushing you into a world that borders on reality and submerges you into it. The magical world of the fey is such that you cannot help but grow attached and feel a sense of familiarity with both the surrounding and the characters. The writing is very descriptive and captivating which aids visualisation, further enhancing the story. The characters, in my opinion, were unique and strong. Meghan didn't annoy me like most other protagonists of her age and as the book delved further, she grew as a character, evolving into a strong and determined young girl. Her thoughts, perceptions, worries etc., were all believable and true to someone like her. Puck was a great character. I loved his sense of humour and mischievous nature. Ash was the direct opposite of Puck in every way. Broody, mysterious, darkly handsome; his intensity and tendency to protect those around him made him the dark hero. He also grew as a character, progressing from a supposedly heartless Winter Prince into someone who ends up passionately caring for a girl who, for all intents and purposes, should be his enemy. I was wary of Grimalkin at the beginning but he grew on me. I ended up really liking his character by the end of the book, mostly because of his witty sarcasm and snarkiness but also because I felt that he was a somewhat loyal character. What was refreshing about the love triangle was that though I was rooting for one of them, I knew I would feel bad for the other in the end. I rarely ever come across two opposite characters whom I love equally and genuinely care for. Ash and Puck are both wonderful characters, both having their flaws and positive traits. But, yeah... I choose Ash in the end! The chemistry between him and Meghan was mind-blowing! Beautiful cover, strangely wonderful story and an ending that didn't leave me feeling cheated or disappointed. The Iron King is definitely a keeper and one of my favourite books I have read this year!

Fascinating topic, although if I ever get my PhD in Egyptology, it would most certainly include a dissertation on sexuality in ancient Egypt--an untapped topic with so much promise! It is also still a goal of mine to find an ancient Egyptian dildo somewhere. I'm certain those crazy Victorians packed them away (let's just hope they didn't destroy them all!).

If you enjoy a good mystery with a paranormal edge, Mary Stanton’s the Beaufort & Company mysteries are the books to read. Angel Condemned is a tasty little morsel giving the reader a little more insight into the personal life of Attorney to the Dead, Bree Beaufort and her family. In this episode, Bree’s Aunt Cissy is engaged to Proper White, an art dealer. Prosper is being sued and Cissy will not abide anyone other than Bree handling his case. However, Prosper has many secrets that will soon come to life when he is murdered. During the investigation, Bree and Det. Sam Hunter must put their budding relationship on hold in order to avoid the accusation of conflict of interest. This nearly broke my heart because I really wanted to read more about them and I will confess that I stomped about like a spoiled child because I could not get many Hunter/Bree smooches. However, Mary Stanton is a smart writer and knows that their relationship could not be a central issue at this time in the series. Many secrets will be revealed, Bree’s emotional balance will be rocked to its’ core and a beloved character will die. Additionally, there is a new bad guy who is truly evil; so much so, he gave me the shivers. I loved this book and this series. Unfortunately, there was a certain feeling of finality with this book. I hope I am wrong and that there will be many more.

Whoa. Don't recall what reading list I picked this from, but it's a head shaker. Without spoilers, it was about half-way into the novel (after annoying literary style) that I found myself in a genre I thought I'd jettisoned for good. That's what I get for not overly researching my books (I like surprise in books and movies). Anyway..........Micah is a liar. A senior outcast in high school (the "freak"), we learn thru Micah's voice who she is, why she lies, her clandestine and unbelievable romance with the popular boy at school...and then the truth. The book is full of lies, however we are assured she is done lying to us the reader and we are now hearing truth...somewhat (sucker!). Every chapter ping pongs back and forth from periods of Micah's life where we learn her secret truths. It's a page turner - I'll give it that hands down. I kept with it despite my mid-novel discovery because I was hooked to see how this author would keep up her act. All the while, it ticked me off how the "hook" kept getting set and reset - all thru lies and re-truths. Ambiguity is not my middle name. Post notes: Just realized this was a YA book - not that it explains everything, it simply further angers me that this otherworld "trend" YA fiction is mired in won't QUIT! When did literary subjects become trendy like skinny jeans? C'mon.

Read in high school, and had to memorize Hamlets speech. I probably can recollect it if I tried hard enough!

This was an different type of western, as it is just a little adventure tale of a wolfer (a man who is hired to hunt down wolves) named Timber Gray who is hired by a cattleman to hunt down a pack of about fifty wolves that killed one of the cattleman's hired hands and some of his cattle. Timber Gray has been hunting wild animals for hire since a rabid pack of wolves killed his wife and only child. This is what drives him to this profession and is also what he needs to overcome to be free one day. Let's just say Timber works out his problems as he hunts down this pack of wolves. This was a fun and entertaining read. It flowed smoothly and was easy to read. But there was nothing super special about this story, it's just a nice read and set in a nice setting: a western. I liked it.

I picked this book up on the strength of its cover, and I was not disappointed. Anya moved to American from Russia when she was five. She had a funny accent, was a little chubby, and didn't get the new culture. Now a teenager, she feels resentful of her "weird" Russian background. So now you know the generalties, let's get into the plot itself. Anya falls into a well where she meets a ghost. The ghost wants to help Anya get both the boy and the popularity Anya craves... until Anya isn't sure she wants it anymore. Dark, funny, great artwork, very quick read. While I feel that it's more of a girl read, I think it has boy appeal as well-- I would put this in the hands of anyone asking for supernatural reads, graphic novels, or books about trying to fit in. 13 and up.
