This was an incredibly dark book. Even EEW's trademark dry humor couldn't elevate it. That's not a style I usually prefer, but I liked it, after awhile. Dana was more grown up and less screwed up than Meg or Rebecca were, and an interesting main character, one I could identify with. I really worried for her and her friends throughout the book and at the end, especially. It was a decent mystery, quite scary in some parts, and the characters made me like the story more than I would have otherwise. But of the many books I've read by the author, this is one I likely will not be rereading very often.

Hmmmmmmmmm......... This book was kinda.....boring.. Nothing ever really seems to happen, I mean stuff takes place, but nothing exciting, zero climax, and the things that could have been a climax seemed unimportant. Not to mention the constant regression of these people, its friggin' infuriating, I guess I'm similar to Ish in that way but I at least would have done something about it. I found myself Googling a few references and phrases in the book. Specifically "You never even noticed the blue in the half-moons" hmmm? The reference to "Cupid's disease" was easier to decipher but still very unfamiliar? I'm only 24 so I guess I wouldn't be expected to recognize 1949 lingo, while this "talk" was frustrating at times I subtracted no stars based upon it, my rating is based strictly upon how much I enjoyed this book. I did learn one good thing from this book, what not to do in an apocalypse!

The book only made me want to do some research into the real story of Rumi and Shams. I could have done without the back-and-forth to the middle aged housewife as her story only distracted from the historical parts of the story.
