Summary: Kat is a hot commodity, years ago a master vampire Gregor had a vision of Kat and Bones together and became obsessed with her and making her his rather than Bones. Mencheres (Bones, grandsire) saw the same vision and was obsessed with keeping the visions integrity. Gregor does manage to take Kat when she is 16 and she spent a month with her. Mencheres manages to capture Gregor and get Cat back and has to bury her memory so deep that she can’t remember a thing of that month. Now, 12 years later Gregor has managed to get free and is claiming that Cat is his wife, which according to vampire laws means that Cat belongs to Gregor and not Bones. This claim threatens to tear the vampire world apart and Bone and Gregor are on the verge of war. Not only does this threaten the vampire world but is tearing Kat and Bones apart and their marriage and love may not make it past this new threat if they even survive Gregors new threat. Review: Jeanine Frost so far has not disappointed in previous books and she sure doesn’t in this one as well. I didn’t like this one as much as the previous three books, but this is still an excellent book. Frost knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and keep the plot moving along. She throws you some curve balls that have your jaw dropping. Now one of the reasons this is not one of my favorites is one of my favorite characters meets an untimely demise and I’m not so happy about that, but what can you do. I assume Frost has a reason for letting that character go, but it doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it. LOL! All of the usual suspects show up in this book as well and it’s good to have them all back!

3.5 stars. This is a pretty refreshing take on werewolves in YA Lit. While there is nothing new added to the myth, it's about a teenage girl who battles emotions and changes that manifest as lycanthropy in addition to regular teenage changes. The book ties in a lot of social issues that teens interact with like sexuality, race, and animal rights. It's a fast read and really captures the emotions of Liv, but there was room for a more complex story and a deeper level of character development. As I mentioned, this book really captures what teen lit strives to accomplish, but it was thin. FLB's style is poetic and detailed (and quite lovely), but it is often brief and leaves something to be desired in many of her newer stories.

Liked this book a lot but at the same time struggled through the length.

Without doubt one of the best books I've read this year, the second in what looks to be a wildly successful fantasy series. 12 year old Quenelda is the daughter of Earl Rufus DeWinter, Dragon Lord and commander of the Stealth Dragon Services. Quenelda should be going to Grimalkin's College for Young Ladies and learning to curtsey properly, but instead she harbours an ambition to attend the Dragon Isle Battle Academy, because Quenelda is a Dragon Whisperer; she can communicate with dragons through telepathy and her dreams. There is an ongoing war against the hobgoblins. Word comes of the defeat of the hobgoblin leader; a decisive strike could lead to victory. However, there is treacherous use of Maelstrom Magic, and the SDS and dragons are smashed. Quenelda's father is missing, presumed killed and the perpetrator of the treachery takes over as Lord Protector of the Seven Seas Kingdom. Can Quenelda and Root, her squire, survive the dangerous journey to prevent further tragedy? Highly recommended to 9+, particularly for fans of Harry Potter and other fantasy series.

This book was such an enjoyable read! A bit predictable, but the characters are so real. I loved reading this & often found myself saying "I don't want this to end." Without revealing anything, I'll say the ending wasn't quite what I had wanted it to be, and that is the only reason I did not give this book 5 stars.

I like this edition because it's two volumes and therefore portable and the notes are helpful and concise. The OCT is nicer but it is good to have some decent notes occasionally.

I find much to relate to in the vagaries of young Jean-Jacques and couldn't agree more with his theories on the dehumanizing effects of injustice, though have yet to see how it all works out. I also highly recommend the inflected reading by Martin Geeson of Haslemere, Surrey (http://librivox.org/confessions-volum...), which I believe conveys just the needed touch of facetiousness in appropriate places. I would imagine it might be rather long to read, but it's quite a pleasure to listen to on a bike as the countryside rolls by - things are just getting spicy with the various madames and mademoiselles at this point.

The author takes a trip to Burma (again, I was preparing for my trip!) to retrace the steps of the famous Victorian adventurer George Scott. Interesting, but might be too much info for a casual reader.
