Serena Carlyle is bound and determined that if she can't have a happy marriage (she is firmly "on the shelf" at age 25) then her sister Charity shall. And it looks like thinks are lining up when Alex Savage, the neighboring Earl, is working towards an offer for Charity. There are just a few problems... Charity is terrified of the Earl, and is dreading the upcoming wedding. Alex is a rogue pirate who loves the sea and plundering it's treasures. Smugglers have moved into the area and threaten the holdings on both families' lands. Serena is in love with the Earl. Serena is torn between loyalty to her sister and her love for Alex as they struggle to find a solution to solve all their problems. I really enjoyed this book. I could barely put it down, and finished it as quickly as possible. The story moves along and the characters are likeable (or not in the case of the villains). It was a spicy love story that grabbed me from the beggining and wouldn't let go.

I enjoyed the beginning, but got bogged down about halfway through.

It's a little corny here at the beginning but I definately can see myself in many of the characters.

The sequel is so far so good. New conflicts are going and Taro's about to see his mom soon. Most of the characters have already splitted up besides Taro and Hiro. Shusaku's blind and two new characters Jun and Hana are int heir group. I think they'll regroup soon with and Taro gets to see his real dad soon. I recommend this to people who like action.

I was really looking forward to the continuation of the Temeraire series, but midway through this book I doubted that it would rate any more than a tepid 3* rating. His Majesty's Dragon ended with the information that Temeraire was a Celestial dragon that the Chinese now wanted back. They had given the dragon egg to the French (and we learn the reason for this near the end of this book), but now state that a Celestial deserves a handler with royal blood, and Laurence definitely does not fit that standard. A compromise is reached to have Laurence and his crew travel to China with Temeraire to see what can be worked out. A great premise, but we then spend six months on board a sailing ship with them (at least, it seemed that long!) Just as I was getting mighty sick of being at sea with only boring ship tasks and illness, strange and dangerous things began happening on board, and a 250-foot sea serpent appeared, giving Temeraire something to do. Once they arrived in China, the book took off again, our suspicions about one of the Chinese delegation was proven true, and a treacherous event led to a surprise ending, with hints of what may happen in the next book. As another reviewer said, there's plenty to love: sea monsters, battles at sea and on land, assassination attempts, and political intrigue. So my tepid 3* grew to a barely 4*, and I will read on in the series.

I laughed all the way through. Weather you believe it is wholly true- you will definitely find your own truths throughout!

I don't know too much about this time period (did I somehow miss this in school?), but from what I understand, this book is not entirely historically accurate. However, it's an enjoyable read - some drama and romance with a few beheadings thrown into the mix. I'm definitely curious to read more of Gregory's books.

An excellent book that brought me back to Dean Koontz after not having read any of his work for years. An amazing example of Koontz's storytelling abilities.
Got a little lengthy and dry at times, but overall I liked it well enough.
