Just finished re-reading this one and enjoyed it the second time around too! Bryson always includes lots of interesting facts, lovely descriptions and (generally) astute observations. As an Australian, living in rural WA, I have to have a bit of a sigh when I read all the stereotypes of Australians as hearty blokes who say g'day a lot. I think generally we're all actually a pretty normal bunch (I've never said 'g'day' in my life!) Also, in all the years I've lived in Australia, I've never met anyone who's been attacked by snakes, spiders, box-jellyfish, conch shells, crocs or sharks ...or even anyone who KNOWS anyone who has been! So perhaps Bill may go a little overboard on describing the dangers of Australian life, but it all still makes for an entertaining and funny read!

Bayley on Pushkin is delightful. I especially like how he discerns heralds of the revolution in the novel brought about by Tolstoy and Dostoevsky in Pushkin's restive parodies and experiments within the prose fiction conventions of the early 19th century. Bayley's essays on Schulz, Gombrowicz, Herbert and Milosz also do a lot to fan my curiosity about Polish literature.

OH MY GOODNESS! This book was EXCELLENT. I completely fell in love with the whole family and was completely devastated by their continued tragedy. I loved how Doris Kearns Goodwin ended the book at JFK's inauguration. It was absolutely amazing how this one event meant so much for the Kennedy family, for the Irish community and for the Catholic Religion.

As he digs deeper to understand and uncover the real truth Glenn must find a terrifying place within himself in order to protect his daughter and avenge his wife's death. The Accident roars forward at a breathless, pulsating pace that brings this domestic thriller to a chilling climax you won't see coming.

Hah! I loved this book! One of my favorite parts was when she explains why dogs can't get free when they're tangled in a leash -- she conjectures it's because they can't count and don't have a "stack" where they can do the computations/permutations of how to get untangled.
