Confirmed all my suspicions and inspired more than a few additional reasons to steer clear of the fast food empire. That said, this is a fascinating read. It's not a jeremiad. A good deal of investigative reporting and scholarly research informs (and lives on) its pages. Particularly fascinating are the histories of specific fast food franchises (look out, Colonel!)and the inside look at the art (believe it or not) and science of artificial flavoring. This is not just a book for those pre-disposed to hating McDonalds. Go ahead, read it, you'll find something you didn't know and perhaps your attitude slightly changed.

I can't believe it took me so long to finally read this book! Alinsky sometimes rambles a bit but overall he is a very effective communicator and practical thinker. Rather than being steeped in ideology, Alinsky is a pragmatist, seeking practical solutions to the problems of the moment. This is a great book for anyone interested in democracy and/or leadership (I'm using quite a few principles from this book in my MBA class).
