More Stephanie Plum. Fun, fast reads as usual. I read some reviews before reading the book and they hated it. I didn't agree with that, but it lacked some chemistry with Ranger and Morelli, though Lulu and Tank amused me. I don't expect a lot from these books...entertain me for an afternoon or two. So it lives up to that.

This was a very good book. It had a lot of interesting information about vampires, past and present. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in vampires or the occult. It has a lot of good information on psychic vampires, which if you believe what the author writes, is the only kind of vampire that exists today, and which are very harmful creatures.

I'm actually leaning more toward a 3.5 for this, but I bumped it up because I know it will be something I will think about for a while. There is a tendency toward didacticism, which I am thinking is just Coelho's style, and I am sure there will be people who bash this for being too obvious and earnest, but it is thought provoking none the less. Its the sort of book where you dont so much question the characters as much as you question yourself, and that is bound to make some uncomfortable.

When he arrives at Maxfield, he immediately starts noticing strange and bizarre things. First of all, there are no adults. Second of all, no one can leave. In this rollercoaster of a plot, readers will soon discover that nothing is as it seems at Maxfield, and when rules are broken, detention is the least of Benson's concerns.

I read The Turner Diaries for free online several years ago. While I didn't expect to agree with it, I expected to at least gain some kind of empathetic understanding of the author's point of view. It turns out that I couldn't have been more wrong. While I can understand why certain groups of people hate certain other groups of people, or why extremist groups entertain utopian fantasies of redrawn borders and wholesale deportation of everyone who's not exactly like them, after reading The Turner Diaries, I found myself scratching my head and wondering who, exactly, would ever read this book from cover to cover and feel that its worldview was one to which they'd like to subscribe. Its vision is so nihilistic, violent, and bleak that it borders on the cartoonish (it starts with killing blacks, Jews, and white "race traitors" in the streets, and ends with nuclear destruction of 75% of planet earth--which is depicted as a positive outcome). It depicts a world devoid of happiness and love, even for its white protagonists, who are emotionless robots. Not to mention the fact that the writing is ludicrously bad. I mean, who reads this book and says, "Right on!"? I don't know, maybe I'm just naive.
