Not my favorite Elmore Leonard, but still a pretty good read.

From the moment I picked this book up I just knew it would be great. Best one of the series this far! Sydney has so such much to deal with in this book. She starts to question the alchemists and noticing they may not always be so trustworthy or telling telling her the truth. Not only that but there's a witch nearby causing some trouble...and Sydney may not be too safe. And of course we can't forget Adrian. :) he's always there for her but can Sydney finally admit to her feelings for him? There's just so much I loved about this book. Adrian being number one! I love his wit and humor. At the wedding, the dream, and most certainly the museum. I just can't gush enough. Also seeing Sydney being more risky and really questioning things and those around her. And being more involved in the magic. And my gosh! The ending. I don't want to wait! I'm just excited to see what happens next! Especially now that someone knew got introduced along with with someone we've meet before. Eeekkkk!

Exciting and well paced with interesting twists and turns, but a great ending that leaves you wanting more. This series has so far been really interesting and I am absolutely in love with it. I can't wait to get my hands on the last three books.

If you liked The Hiding Place then you'll like this book. This tells of all Corrie's adventures sharing the gospel after the war. She is an incredible woman and it's inspiring to read of her experiences.

Another exhilarating, complicated, nauseating, multi-layered cop and crime opus from Ellroy's. Layers upon layers, no good guys. The cops are crooked, the crooks are sadistic, the mobsters violent and plotting. Everyone is damaged goods but ultimately human. A very hard book to put down.

I won a free copy of this book off of goodreads. Moonlight on Linoleum exceeded my expectations. Going into the book I was honestly not expecting much. Getting only ten pages into the book I was hooked. It was inspirational and true. It came off as "this is life and it happens," not a "poor me book." I was entranced in the sister connection of the book and was reminded of my mother and grandmother a lot through out the book. It was powerful and emotional but kept a happy tone at points as well. I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. I would look forward to seeing Terry Helwig write another book.

3.25 Stars. Gosh, another hard one to review. If you read the synopsis of the book it is somewhat misleading, it leads the reader to expect most of the book to be about the relationship between Harper and Maggie (the girl from the train wreck) but it's really not. The book lends most of its time to Harper's relationship with the love of his life, Betsy. Many times I sighed that "Here we go again" noise when reading this. It's stated in the book that Harper was living in the shadows of his deceased wife (not giving anything away here) and the book certainly illustrates this--so much in fact, I almost abandoned it. Had I expected this I might be a little less critical. Although I found myself frequently frustrated I also found the story calling me back which may be attributed to the writing. There are also many other issues that lie beneath the surface of this story--some subtle, some not so subtle--which could illicit some excellent discussion: racism, forgiveness, the draft, hate, et al. Eventually it all works out into a tale of redemption, forgiveness, and understanding.
