Dog lovers will love this tale about quirky Marley! A fun story about the good (& bad!) days of dog ownership & the power of canine/human love. Anyone who has ever owned a lab will be especially amused!

After reading all the praises printed on the cover of the Finnish translation of this book, I was expecting more than I got. I liked the small, simple story itself well enough, but the philosophy added to it was redundant. Don't misunderstand me, I agree most of the "teachings" and "lessons", but after one philosophy course I took in school and the twelve subsequent years I've lived since have taught me these lesson better than reading someone else learn them ever could. I don't understand why someone, anyone, had to write a fictional book about it and I can only feel sorry for the poor souls who need to learn these lessons from this book.

Excellent, although his pursuits before 1938 are less well known this era of his life is just as interesting. I have read this book three times and just like others you find things you missed in previous readings which makes it more the better.

my least favorite so far. the others were amazing but this one seemed a bit dull, just there to bridge between VAL and LIT. also, i prefer the alternating point of views over the new way the books are written. having 70 pages in a row of just mimi's POV is rather annoying as i do not care for her. deming was a very nice addition but i miss bliss. i know she will have her own series but i do not think i will enjoy those as much as blue bloods, because each of the characters are somewhat dull and that is why it is better to alternate POVs in this series. i mean, the books are great, but part of the reason is that each chapter ends in a cliffhanger, so you can't help but keep reading. with the alternating POVs, you are forced to read two more chapters before you find out what happens next with each character. and theres always something going on with each so these books are page turners. plus, by the end of MA, i had forgotten about what happened with jack and sky. I really hope miss de la cruz goes back to the alternationg POVs but i am confident that lost in time will be much more exciting than misguided angel.

I read it through cover to cover in one setting - he writes so incredibly well, I could see everything coming to life.

Jimmy Carter uses this book to help relate scripture to everyday life, and how he and his wife have related scripture to events that have happened in their lives. Depicts the true compassion of a humble man.

A great big book about baseball, trash and the Cold War. Underworld has an interesting structure, going backwards for the most part. The 60 page prologue is the best part of the book, brilliant prose about the Giants' triumph over the Dodgers at home at the Polo Grounds on the last day of the 1951 penant race, Bobby Thomson's Shot Heard Round the World, linking Cotter Martin, a young black boy from Harlem who jumps the gate and nabs the home run, J. Edgar Hoover, who hears about a Russian atomic test while at the game with his pals Frank Sinatra and Jackie Gleason, the players, the announcer... Then DeLillo takes us 41 years into the future, where the man who now owns the ball meets up with a woman he had a short affair with in '51. He works in waste management. She has turned America's military planes into an art installation. Successive sections bring us back to the dawn of the Cold War. The fictional characters are interspersed with celebrities and real events - DeLillo follows Lenny Bruce at his shows during the Cuban Missile Crisis as the purest expression of America's psyche, his characters go from waste and government work in the desert southwest back to their early years in the Bronx. The best word to describe the book is panoramic. Characters retain mystery, dialogue is realistic and good. Lots of themes here.

didn't get to read all of it, cuz my sister had to return it to the library. heehee. >< it seemed okay so far, but i felt like it was trying a little too hard to be all funny and charming ... idk. it was like wannabe-series of unfortunate events. like, the whole writing a gloomy story in a funny tone kind of thing. idk.
