Not the very best book I've ever read but it did get to the point where I liked it. I'm just not sure the characters were very believable and the ending was useless. Hmmm, a good idea, a nice setting, but I won't be rushing out to buy the second edition!

For someone who is an enemy of the American people, Reich is a perceptive and entertaining writer. I'm ambivalent now. Reading books about the Clinton administration is one of the most depressing activities possible. Why? 1. All these people, thinking they are doing good, and working so hard to further the bubble-driven, short-term only, economy we live in. 2. Knowing that they knew full well the problems in income inequality, public utilities, and education, and that they simply ignored them a too difficult. 3. They're back in Obama's administration: Rubin, Summers, vomit.

This is, by far, my favorite book of all time. You have to get through the first 30 chapters or so (chapters are short--sometimes less than a page) before it starts to get really amazing, but once I got there, I couldn't put the book down. And when I finished I kept looking for more pages, hoping they'd magically appear and the story could continue. I love books that require a vivid imagination and this is no exception. An Indian boy is in a massive shipwreck that leaves him stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger for hundreds of days. One of my favorite lines from the book: "Things didn't turn out the way they were supposed to, but what can you do? You must take life the way it comes at you and make the best of it."

Helluva way to get to know yourself, to dive into the history of a block in New York City and expect to find a story tight enough to fit into a book, and strong enough to carry you through the inevitable tragedy. Good thing it was Will Eisner who tried - and accomplished - this.
