A very strange story about a bitter sea witch who discovers that she can draw a girl or man from the heart of a seal. It is a story of a slow broiling revenge that has implications for the entire island and its unnatural inhabitants. It is in many ways a heart breaking story and you can't help but feel sorry for the sea wives. Its conclusion is by no means shocking or unexpected but...satisfying. I really enjoyed it, it was very well done.

I really enjoyed this book for its messages about teenage attitude and I was intrigued by the characters. I loved how his relationship with the town and his family changed repeatedly and how kindness won. The Audobon pictures of birds highlighted at the beginning of each chapter and threaded throughout the book was creative. Can't wait for my boys to read it.

Once upon a time a book club I belonged to chose this as the selection of the month. There were 6 of us and as we met to discuss the book we all realized that we were skirting around the issue that none of us (or maybe just one) had actually finished the book. It was hilarious, after 15 minutes of everyone pretending that they had read the whole thing, to realize that nobody had any idea what actually happened. The main character is so disgusting and unlikeable that it was impossible to get through the book. I love New Orleans, and am interested in anything related to it, otherwise I would have put this book down a lot sooner than I did.

Let me start off by saying normally I wouldn’t bother reading a rewrite of a fairy tale. I like originality and most of the time you do not find that in a revised story. I did however find “Princess of the Midnight Ball” to be interesting enough to try. Jessica Day George is an author that was completely off my radar until this book came to my attention, and I am apt to research and read more of her novels after having read her rewrite of “The Twelve Dancing Princesses”, originally a Brothers Grimm fairy tale in German. In case you missed some of the episodes, or just want to read them again, this book gets you caught up on all the characters of the long-running strip. Interesting to see how her drawing improved over time. These cartoon characters are more like the real Lesbians I know than any I've seen on TV.

Re-reading a childhood favorite with my 8-year-old daughter and this story's still wonderful!

i give it this many stars because he was exhaustingly difficult to read, yet worth every effort of dissection. although, i dont really see eye to eye with his theories... his premise is that everything we know, all of our ideas-- come from experiences. he uses the microscope and razor method to dissect any type of abstract concept that comes his way (aka metaphysics... theology/religion) oh, and there's the FORK-- okay, i dont think i need to go on. philosophy writers are pretty dry.... but worth it if you're into this kind of stuff.

Bu hikayenin iyi yazıldığını hissetmedim, karakterlerin hiçbiriyle bağlantı kuramadım.
