Not my favorite Narnia book, but still important to the series. This book allows you to understand how the rest of the world outside of Narnia lives. For that reason alone, I will love it forever. Great as an audiobook or just to read.

looks like this one...mine had a blue cover...from...'86...everyone from plato to....dunno who the last one would have been. all the major statements, sir philip sidney, keats, do not recall all of them...whoever used the expression "willing suspension of disbelief"....the idea of a touchstone....what art should do, delight and instruct?..... or like today, enlighten and baffle? or...what w/the preponderance of the evidence, suggest a way of life better left in the gutter, where it is found, though it is to often raised up and yes, in our face. which all goes to say there be shape-changers about, demons. ha! alexander pope may be in here...no list of all who are...so much for major, hey? no longer possess my copy one thing i've often wondered, like, way back in the day, all the poets and writers had to find a way to say the king is shit without coming right out and saying it... ....today you can't criticize all the butt-fucking and cock-sucking w/o sounding like a homophobe...a handy cliche if ever there was a wiz there was... ...but at the same fucking time, you can blast the fuck out of christianity and get away with it....witness that shithead that is president and what he was able to say regarding all those clinging to their guns and religion in pennsylvania... ...not to mention that asshole from the all-illinois church of the modern jesus...'god dam america!' ...whereas, if there'd been a fucking cross burning in the fucking background, a bunch of guys standing around in sheets.... ...all those shithead media types would have been all over that shit. ...but no....there be demons about...and though we're supposed to be so fucking diverse...we have more segregation than congregation.... so yeah...when is a major statement going to be made about that sad state of affairs?

The book Monster is about a 16 year old boy named Steven who is on trial for a crime that he didn't commit. Steven is threatened with the death sentence for murder. Throughout the story he writes his thoughts, and what's actually happening, down in a journal that he is given. He starts to make it in to a "Movie" that he stars in as "The Monster". The reason he names the movie "Monster" is because the prosecutors call him a monster for robbing and killing the clerk. Steven shows us through the words that he uses the sense of hopelessness. He never really knows why he's on trial. He knows he didn't do it and he wishes everyone else would just believe him. Steven looses all hope when he has to stay in a jail cell. The guards are nasty and so are the other inmates. I really liked this book. It was action packed and it shows both sides to a story. I would recommend this book to just about anyone!

This was my first from Rushdie. I had high expectations to start, so when I was 3/4s of the way done and still waiting for it to begin, I wondered if I was missing something. Not his best from what I hear, so I'm eager to read others by him. His character descriptions were fun, maybe even extreme at times. Whether he was trying to be accurate or comical I don't know. I'm too far removed from this scene to know the difference. However, I understand the furies a little too well... Scary.
