It is definitely flawed (hence the 4 stars instead of five). Where is the rest of the world? How is there, oh I don't know, 100 16 year olds. Where is everybody? It doesn't make sense. It also doesn't really explain why the world is like that. There was war or something and then the factions were created I suppose, but who knows. However, those flaws aside, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I find the concept of the factions quite fascinating. I've been attempting to figure out which faction everyone I know would be in (I myself would likely be Erudite, or possibly Amity). Surprisingly, I don't hate Beatrice. All too often I find the female protagonist of YA fiction to be annoying. I kind of like Tris because she has a backbone, and she struggles sometimes with similar values as me. It is an intriguing and highly entertaining world, and I am looking forward to reading Insurgent.

Very likeable characters, funny situations. A classic Heyer. A little too many side plots for my taste, I prefer Devil's Cub, for instance. Still, well written and enjoyable.

I rarely give a 5-star review, but this book was so clever and different. Hysterical use of language as letters cease to be available for use. Highly recommended for its wit and humor. It only takes an hour or two to read, but you will enjoy every minute of it.
