Finally, I've arrived at one star for this series. Minor characters (Aphrodite and Darius) kept this at a two-star for me, but they received almost no special recognition. It's clear that the Casts are not interested in writing a larger role for them, which is a shame as they have so much potential. And now, the BAD parts: or the SO BAD I WAS POKING NEEDLES IN MY EYES WHILE READING THEM parts. - I can't form a coherent review right now so it's going to be bullet points. That's what the Casts have driven me to! That and writing down a list of the faults I found in Destined. - Once again, this series needs it's own dictionary. The Casts seem to think it's perfectly fine to make up their own words (AKA words they think teenagers actually use.) Bullpoopie and gihugic are just some examples of their vapidness. And the dialogue is horrendous. Every sentence: "That's super super super great!" Shut the hell up and go fuck yourself, or better yet, go to English class for once instead of skipping (ahem ZOEY.) - The pop culture references. Dear God, there's only so many a person can take. Iphones, Skype, Lindsay Lohan, Game of Thrones, and True Blood. It's a shame because 20 years from now, these books will be outdated and relegated to used bookstores and warehouse overstock while Twilight will probably still be selling somewhat strong. Really bad planning on their part. And it detracted from the writing. After some great action, the character will randomly start thinking about how they had to catch up on their TV seasons. Earth to the Nerd Herd! You guys may have to stop Neferet. THERE IS NO TIME TO WATCH A MARATHON OF TRUE BLOOD. And had the Casts spent less time on the current fads, they could have made some real plot advancement. - The Ravenmockers are incredibly annoying! Plus, most of them decided to watch Star Wars and take a page from Yoda's book. Seriously, every single one of them sounded like Yoda. - How dare the Casts reference Tolkien in their books. They don't deserve to. LoTR is a masterpiece and this series is just an iota of what LoTR is. - I was also really sick of the elitism. I believe it was more pronounced in this installment than any other. Zoey and Co. get a special first hour class with Thanatos because of their abilities. They need "more attention." And then they have the nerve to consider Shaylin, the newcomer, weird! It seems Zoey has achieved a status no normal human or vampire vampyre can even aspire to. - And the last one was plain avoidable. AWKWARD GRAMMAR. Just hear me out. Does this sentence flow right to you? "Hadn't really talked about it hardly at all." Now, I'm not usually a grammar nazi, but this just pissed me off, along with multiple other mistakes. It was clunky and unwieldy. The OK parts. There isn't another section for good parts because there were none. - The mythology keeps the story going. - And well, these books are addicting for some reason I just can't place. Damn you Casts, for making me buy books I, for all intensive purposes, HATE. If I ever see the Casts in person… Fuck yeah I'd use a trident.
