This was probably my least favorite of the series so far, and I still gave it 4 stars. That ought to tell you how I feel about this series, lol. It's hard to put my finger on why this one didn't capture me the way the first 3 did. For one thing, it seemed like there wasn't quite as much passion. I mean, the intimate scenes did not disappoint, but it was harder for me to get lost in those moments. I think it was because, at first, I didn't like Jacinda that much. The author made no secret of the fact that she was somewhat spoiled, and in the beginning she acted like it. I went with it because I assumed it was part of the overall story. She grew as a person as the story intensified. She started out wanting what she wanted (freedom) and didn't stop to think who she might be hurting in order to get it. Namely her family and Lizzie when she tried to run off in the beginning. After all the years that Lizzie had faithfully given her loyal friendship, I was disappointed in Jacinda for trying to ditch her. And I was also pretty appalled at her ploy involving Lord Drummond. But, like I said, she grew as the story unfolded. I guess it just seemed like Billy worked a lot harder for the relationship than she did. Despite how I felt about the h, Foley's writing style pulled me in just the way it has for the last three books. Not my favorite, but still a very worthy read.

Oh, Yoko! Mama cat told you not to bring your delicate Japanese doll on the bus. Yet you just couldn't resist the idea of bringing the doll for show and tell, so you sneak her out of the house. While on the bus, two bully French bulldogs play catch with your beautiful doll and break her. Thankfully, wise Mama cat knows just what to do. As a child, I used to feel jealous when storybook characters did not yell at their disobedient children. Now, I realize that this "patience modeling" is meant for adults who are reading it to children as much as it is meant for the youngsters.

This book was not what I expected. And I don't mean this in a good way. In fact, I am wondering why everybody loves this book so much. I don't know. I really don't. To me it was a kind of blah book. Seriously. Sure, it had potential and I have to say at first I was kinda intrigued but then I got more and more bored. It was the same thing all over again, you know. Mia in the hospital (i.e. what happens there with her), then she thinks of the past, old memories, parents, Adam, ... I just - I don't really know how to describe it but it was kinda predictable from the writing style. How Forman told the story. I suppose all the tragedy should touch me but I have to say, it didn't. I felt kinda indifferent while reading it. This book didn't touch me at all. Way too predictable, the characters weren't any better then puppets and yeah, not my cup of tea. I guess. Let me just say, when I read a book like this, with this topic, I expect way more. A lot more. Especially making me able to feel. Forman didn't succeed at all. Even though there were some nice sentences. But that's it. Not a book to be remembered. Sadly.

Makes me wish I remembered more of what happened in White Apples, but enough is recapped that I can get by. While this is technically a sequel, I think one could probably read this without having read the other and still have it make sense. Well, as much sense as Jonathan Carroll ever does.

I truly enjoyed this one. It was less the plot - his quest to cure indecision - but more the language and relationship dynamics which are truly entertaining. He captures a unique NYC life and will read more of what he writes whenever he writes it. I like that he swears well, too.
