I was really hesitant to read this because I was horrified at the ending to the previous book. But...I really like the way Richelle Mead writes so I couldn't stay away from it for too long. I'm glad I didn't. While the ending wasn't a surprise I still like how it turned out. That's all I'll say. :D ENJOY.

Really cool book in that I learned more facts per page than any book that I can remember in recent history. Loses a few points for sheer lack of punch, leaving me feeling as if I was reading more of a textbook than an interesting story and history of civilization. Kurlansky shows how central a role Salt has played in human history. That premise comes off as slightly underwhelming until you start the book. Next thing I knew I was learning about archeological evidence showing the Celtic empire of thousands of years ago, what the Egyptians ate, how Roman soldiers were often paid in Salt, and how many major cities throughout history are located where they are because of proximity to a salt source.

This book was my first experience with Robin McKinley. I don't know if I will read another. This one felt a little disjointed to me. Maybe it was the narrator on the CD not sure. I felt a little like it was a dream book where everything makes sense in the dream until you wake up and then nothing fits together. This one would have probably been better if I had read it rather than listened to it but not sure. The story line was good. Strong Female main character who wins in the end. The ending was my favorite part. I think I actually smiled at that. The rest was kind of blah to me. It didn't appear that I needed to read the two prior books first as the characters appeared to be different but maybe that would have helped.
