I think I'd like to give this one 3 1/2 stars. The last couple of chapters felt a little rushed. The ending was very abrupt. It seemed like the author got stuck at some point and came up with something...which I suppose is better than nothing? Anyway, overall I really enjoyed the series.

While I enjoy reading Tom Clancy, I found this one to be rather sub-par to his other books. For me, there just wasn't enough tension. It seemed that each plan with the story worked out with relatively little deviation from the plan. I'm in the process of reading all the novels in the Jack Ryan universe and taken in this light this book is a must read. It just doesn't stand up to some of the earlier books. I'm glad I read it; just not overly enthusiastic with the novel as a whole.

Notes on Sound "The Coyote of Southern California has a distinct yapping, dog-like bark, similar to a Hyena. This yapping grows more intense and maniacal as the pack grows in numbers, which is usually the case when they lure, and kill pets from suburban yards. The sense of growing frenzy in the pack should be felt in the background, particularly in scenes 7 and 8. In any case, these Coyotes never make the long, mournful. solitary howl of the Hollywood stereotype. The sound of Crickets can speak for itself. These sounds should also be treated realistically even though they sometimes grow in volume and numbers."

Fascinating. Like splashing the first section of Ginsberg's "Howl" with water kicked up from Rimbaud's "Le bateau ivre" and putting it in prose. Really wish this copy was not mine, and not borrowed from a friend.
