Profoundly interesting. It really requires an open mind, because as Singer says multiple times, and as the title suggests, it is advocating a collapse of what we consider to be traditional and common place ethics. Many of the ideas inside are ones I had considered but felt were too extreme to openly admit, but what Singer promotes makes rational sense, and I'm in support of at least a number of what he is advocating for. It is a shift, but it's one I feel could begin to take place.

I love historical fiction, especially anything involving Henry VIII. For some sick reason I'm obsessed with that whole drama. This was a good book. Much cleaner than The Other Boleyn Girl, which I liked but found a little trashy. Katherine of Aragon was such a composed and regal lady who went through all sorts of difficulties, but always managed to keep her composure.

Containing a million little truths about life, the book is throughly enjoyable. I loved the characters, especially Domenica and Bertie. Also, the author depicts Scotland and Edinburgh in particular in a loving and honest way. As I lived in Scotland for a year I can easily identified with many aspects while discovering personalities etc. I haven't heard of. Can't wait to read the sequel!
Thank you, First Reads! This is a clean, simple enjoyable read with a powerful story. Colt McCoy is a great example of what solid values, faith and good parenting can do for a kid. I recommend this to UT fans, football fans, or readers looking for a positive, uplifting biography that also is a light read. This book may have real appeal for middle school and high school boys who love football and who need to be exposed to a prominent sports figure who has a positive message to deliver. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Colt's story and I'm now a Colt McCoy fan.

I am of the opinion one should read Chaucer in the original Middle English. This edition has great footnotes for the neophyte Middle English linguist, and the comprehension progresses well once one gets accustomed to some of the major differences. Loads of fun! "Who peyntede the leon, tel me who?" (III. 692, Wife of Bath's Prologue)

Mmm, so this is an interesting topic: journalists and writers who've made some kind of difference through their writing; but the format of the book: potted biography of + excerpts from 16 'muckrakers' counts against the material: the biographies are too potted and the excerpts have little power out of context. Also, I'm colon-happy again, but there's no connection.

Satire is often funny. In this book it grim and contemptuous. Flaubert condemns complacent provincialism and excessive urbanity equally, through a host of unpleasant characters. This book is justifiably famous for its racy and lurid passages concerning love affairs, and its cruel exposure of false or forced unions. Is it worth reading? Yes; it is eloquent on the subject of human folly. Yes; it has an engaging story. But it is not happy.

Posted on Under the Covers I absolutely loved Michaels’s writing style. The pacing was great, the sense of humor was spot on and most of all, this book had a lot of heart in it. Evan and Matt are perfect for one another. I loved that they both started off in a bad place. Of course, I don’t wish what happened to Evan to happen to anybody, but the fact that Evan found comfort in Matt’s presence set my mind at ease. It seemed like a natural progression to their friendship and I loved that they sought out each other in their darkest times. It shows that love can overcome the steepest mountain. You just need to have a little faith. I know that others had a difficult time believing that Matt and Evan were both straight men who, for the first time became interested in men. My feelings on this were the exact opposite. I felt that Michaels showcased their inner conflict well. Their confusion was evident in Evan’s self-loathing and doubt and also in Matt’s unease. There was a lot of back-and-forth action because, for them, it’s something they have never experienced before. Faith and Fidelity was a thrill to read. It was a solid M/M romance with a wonderful backstory and incredible supporting characters. I’m sure Michaels will become a favourite of mine soon.
