Oh my god! I freaking hate the damn vampires in this book! They’re so bossy and everything has to go their way and they do whatever they want, whenever they want. Their word is law and it’s their way or the graveyard. And if you happen to get away and remember one thing about the town, they hunt you down and kill you. I’m sooooo sick of Oliver and Amelie. Maybe she’s supposed to be the good guy in the whole vampire scenario but she’s a total pain in my ass. I know I have a lot of books to go (bought all but the last two in the Borders meltdown so far), but I hope when Caine ends this series she burns the whole damn town down and takes the vampires with it. And Monica and her family. And her friends. And if Claire keeps acting the way she has been, I may be hoping she goes down with the ship too. (view spoiler). Agh! I know they’re just not real but I’ve seriously never been so pissed at fictional characters before! I think I have control issues and am projecting onto Claire and her friends. Still, doesn’t change my feelings, I hate them! This was a good sequel to Glass Houses, picking up right where the first book left off. Shane’s dad is in town with his biker buddies and is hell bent on taking his revenge on the vampires of Morganville. The actions he takes against them spell out possible doom for one of the members of Glass House and puts everyone else in even greater danger than they already were. New characters are introduced, with one being particularly interesting, and there are some major changes in store for multiple people from book one. How were the characters in this book? Well, Eve’s great because she doesn’t take crap from anyone. I hope we learn more about her family in future installments, and I’m sure sooner or later her nutso brother will pop up again. I do love Shane, but he really ticked me off this go around (I really do like all of the main characters, but they do some dumb ass stuff!). His father has beat him in the past and continues to beat him and he put Claire and Eve in danger, yet Shane refused to stand up to him. I’m not going to ruin it and say whether or not he grew a pair, but his behavior around his father is so un-Shanelike it really bugged me. Michael’s just awesome. Can’t wait to see what Caine has in store for him as I read more of the series. (view spoiler) I like the introduction of Sam and would think he’ll be playing a role in future books, which, in my opinion, would be good. And I gotta think that sooner or later the townspeople will rebel and stop putting up with the crap that all the vampires are dishing out. I mean, how could anyone really live that way? I read the first of the Weather Warden series by Caine and just couldn’t get into it. Maybe it’s just that Djinn kinda bore the crap out of me, but for whatever reason, I’m tearing through this series and am thoroughly enjoying it. I just hope the rest of the books are as good. And that some of the vamps and people pissing me off meet a very unhappy ending. Well, unhappy for them, happy for me. Judging by what happens at the end of The Dead Girls’ Dance, it looks like I’m in for another terrific read. And that Claire’s going to piss me off some more.
