While I like this book, I was a bit disappointed by it as well. Characters are underdeveloped and it felt rushed. Then again it's a romance novel... nuff said.

Meh. Competent presentation, but it was very UK-centric. All of the examples and resources were from the UK which makes it of limited use to an east coast, American sailor.

I wish more people would read this book! I just loved the characters and the history lessons as well as the plot, however complex it may seem. It does require a minor acceptance of time travel, but it is in no way science fiction.

Joshua Harris is a pastor and author, a father and husband, and a disciple of Christ. His book Dug Down Deep shares his journey to becoming a Christian. The book title refers to the need to build your faith upon a solid foundation. And the author attempts to contribute to your solid foundation, first sharing with you his story of growth and enlightenment. He begins with what he terms his "rumspringa", which is based on the Amish tradition of allowing teenagers to run wild and explore the world before they make their choice on whether or not to stay in the Amish world. He says that his rumspringa couldn't compare-- he never got drunk or did drugs, but just displayed some mild rebellion-- but he was somewhat apathetic about God and his faith when he was younger. He grew his faith over time. He then explains about the meaning of common terms like "doctrine" and "orthodoxy", and other common Christian building blocks, like the Trinity, Jesus, his crucifixion and resurrection. And his final chapter touches on how humility is needed when following and spreading God's Word. It is about recognizing how flawed we all are, and coming to God in humility and repentance. The author is very "readable" and relatable. He doesn't talk down to you or over-complicate things. He uses a lot of personal stories (both his own and of others) as examples. And he is humble.

Toshi is a japanes detective who has to deal with some unsolved cases of murder: couples who are slaughtered during the lovemaking with a samurai's sword. No clues that lead to the murderer, no one. John is an empathic american cop who is sent on Tokyo to help Toshi. And for Toshi is speaking english and has lived in America for some years during college, is asked to host John. Toshi is handsome and a very closed person. During is american years he has loved a man, Michael, but when his family has asked him to return to Japan, he has accepted and now he has also agreed to marry the woman his family has choosen for him. Even if he can't love her, even if she loves another man. John is a 37 years old veteran, tired of the madness of the world, but still eager for the human touch even if he can't touch nobody: when he touch someone, he is overwhelmed by the thought and feelings of the other person, and it is very stressful. But when he touch Toshi, he only feel warn and the feeling to be his. And the need to be with him. The touch of Toshi is like a shell from the outside world. More they dig on the case, and more they understand that something not human is involved with the cases, and that their love is not unrelated to it. A very interesting suspence romance novel, where the romance maybe sometimes steal the scene to the suspence, but it is not a negative thing, cause Toshi and John are two wonderful characters, very balanced: no one is more stronger or weaker to the other. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1934166839/?...
