This was a fabulous read for me,absolutely loved Webb-Roanna such strong sweet caring honest characters and their love was so deep they lived for each other protected each other and even sacrificed so much so that the other one gets happiness. It was a 5 star book for me but the climax disappointed me a little so 4.5 stars I really cried for Roanna way she suffered and changed lost her smile and willingness to live, for no fault of hers she constantly suffered so much pain anger abusings humiliation tauntings negative comments just cause of someone jealousy and no one came to protect her except Webb but then tragedy and time snatches him also from her Absolutely loved Webb,he also went through so much but he even lade the wrongs right, way he counts Roanna's smiles are cute and his determination to make Roanna happy and bring all smiles happiness and colours back into her life, the way he was shunned by everyone no one supported him except Roanna but cause of grief anger he did'nt see it but realises it later The reason for Jessie's murder spoiled the climax for me i just could'nt digest it and the killer i am angry, okay even if you try to reason out it was accident and it was in self-defence but why the silence for 10 years,it destroyed Roanna so much and destroyed 2 life's completely, least Webb should have been told but seeing it from only Webb-Roanna's love journey its a fabulous story, theirs is a true love that is so deep that for each others happiness they can even die for each other, their love gave strength to them to survive through darkness and then they meet again teach other to live again, finally they manage to pass all the hurdles and past demons and their love wins and they get their truly deserved HEA Overall a great read Recommend it

If this is historical fiction, so is Gunsmoke. I think watch in Dr.Quinn Medicine woman, Little House on the Prairie or Bonanza would be a better use of time, I'm sure you could find similar story lines. I don't look to TV for intellectual depth and often prefer shows that don't require much brain activity but I like books with depth. According to this book, American soil must be bad for the soul. Only recent immigrants should apply for sainthood. Funny, the book points out Anti- Catholicism and Anti-Semetism, but compare what other faiths do. Protestant America gave religious freedom; compare to the Catholic countries of the era and look up Pope Leo XIII thoughts on religious freedom. The present Pope refuses Galileo entrance to heaven like he has such a heavenly choice. The Vatican has tried to do what so called Anti-Catholics feared - influence American politics. And Protestant America normally sided with Jewish people and gave religious freedom. Of course, you have White Protestant hate groups but if Catholic and Jewish people don't want to get painted over with a broad brush stroke, they shouldn't be doing so to the so called WASPS and Crackers. The author did a Chris Mathews by being a racist anti-racist. I have my doubts that the soil south of the imaginary Mason-Dixon line turns people into evil racists. The founder of Georgia was an abolitionist but he didn't use the scorched earth policy on Northern colonies participating in slavery. Slavery is still practiced in Africa, Native Americans did the same, a worldwide institution. A universal wrong, not a just a Southern wrong. Look at slavery in New Jersey I have Spanish Catholic, Native American ancestors and most likely some Black ancestors; I'm sure many did wrong. Painting my White Protestant pioneers as the most unjust offends my intelligence; therefore, my low review. I believe people are born equally screwed up. I'm Agnostic but if I had to choose, after my my research on religions, I would take the little Protestant crazy over the crazy of the bigger religions. See Batholomew's Day Massacre. The author's rampant stereotyping just irritated me.

"The Wise Man's Fear" is a great sequel to a great first novel. Rothfuss' simple prose allow the reader to feel very close to the narrative. The plot is engaging and events are often unexpected (the meeting of Ferulian, the venture into Ademre, and the murder of the Ruh-imposters, to name a few). And, honestly, it's just a fun book to read. However, there were some problems with the book that bugged me as I neared the end. One problem that Rothfuss seems to have is the development of convincing female characters. The female characters either seem like caricatures or are indistinguishable from each other. Denna and Auri, the female characters to whom Kvothe is closest, both have the same flaw; they're flighty. Though Auri has more distinguishing traits (like being crazy), Denna's stops there. Her dialogue and characterization is often indistinguishable from Kvothe when they are interacting. In this book, we get to see a bit more about Denna's past, which is interesting, but this peek behind the curtains is short lived. It's easier to differentiate between Fela and Mola in this novel, but they fall into the same problem of bland dialogue and not much in the way of interesting character traits. I have a soft spot for Devi, but her character can fall into similar problems. These problems exist with other characters. Sim and Wil are virtually the same person, for instance. But they seem especially present in women. Kvothe also has some interesting sexual development, where he goes from a clumsy, innocent virgin to a sexual deviant within the space of a few months. In some ways it's believable, due to his encounter with Ferulian. In others, I feel as though Rothfuss just wanted Kvothe to become sexually confident, without doing any of the awkward in between bits. Women throwing themselves at Kvothe also makes him and them a bit less interesting. Struggle is usually more engaging for a reader and more believable. That said, I think Rothfuss does a fantastic job with Kvothe's magical development. His struggle to discover and keep the name of the wind is interesting. His development of the bloodless and his success with sympathy, while still believable, allow him a certain distinction among his peers. I've heard complaints of Kvothe being a Mary Sue, but there is something about his voice in the first person that makes him an interesting narrator. Kvothe is a fun character to follow (although he returns to blandness in the third person bits). All in all, I would definitely recommend this book. Although there are some problems, they are far outshone by the prose, the storytelling, and the character of Kvothe.
