As a huge fan of Jane Austen, I had hoped to enjoy this more than I did. In general, Austen was a better writer than she is a character. The pace of the book is sporadic and the red herrings obvious. One of the things I enjoy most about Austen is her detachment from the great affairs of her age and I find that most imitators err in trying to enhance that connection.

I started reading this story after I saw the movie trailer. I had seen this book on shelves over the past couple of years and always thought about reading it, but it wasn't until I saw the trailer that my interest was piqued. I really enjoyed this story. I didn't care for how Rachel always did what Darcy wanted her to do. I found that to be really annoying and Darcy really took advantage of that flaw in Rachel, but eventually Rachel realized the truth about Darcy. Rachel stood up for herself and went after what she wanted, at the same time giving Dex an ultimatum. I was quite proud of Rachel for finally taking control of her life and doing what she wanted to do. In the end she got what she wanted. One of my favorite characters in the book is Ethan. I'm glad that he'll have a bigger role in the film.
