Wow...how depressing...I can't believe I am giving this only two stars. I have been waiting for this book to come out and was INCREDIBLY excited to see it on NetGalley and even more priveledged that I was allowed to read an ARC. On that note, this isn't Jennifer Donnelly's finest work. Her other books, including her YA books have received nothing less than 4 stars from me. I found this one disappointing, forced and predictable though..and def. not up to her "standard" of writing. Second, there were numerous errors regarding dates, ages and such that I confirmed with multiple individuals who were sucked into this trilogy as much as I was. I don't think it was sloppiness, but I do feel it was artistic liberties and that it was felt the fans either wouldn't pick up on or would be accepting of. Bottom line though: I will still read every piece of literature that this woman puts out because she is an INCREDIBLE author who has a talent to weave a wonderful story.

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I picked this book up some years ago. It certainly is different from Gaiman's usual writing, but still has his distinctive touches. I was equally disturbed and fascinated, and occassionally a little grossed out, by this book, which took all the places I thought I knew so well and made them into something slightly sinister and dark. I've never since taken the Tube without thinking of this book.

Every time I read this book I get something else out of it. Much more complicated and requireing a lot more thought and attention than I expected, I found myself getting completely caught up in this wonderful Star Wars style story. I really hope there's more for Susan and Lobsang.
