I love the concept of Q, and I have to say it was a novel defied my expectations. I thought I'd had a good idea of what would happen, yet I was very surprised at some of the twists! What if time travel was possible? What would you do if your future self showed up and warned you not to proceed with a marriage, a change in career or other life decision? Would you heed their advice or take the risk anyway? In Q, this isn't an easy choice for the unnamed protagonist to take. Overall I really enjoyed Q. It was an entertaining read, and the last chapter was an utter delight. My only complaint was that sometimes the action dragged as the unnamed protagonist liked to go on tangents that didn't add much to the overall narrative. I recommend Q to anyone looking to read a novel that's a little quirky, and quite romantic.

Irene and I are reading this one right now. We have the other two as well and will read them next. So far, it is a good and exciting book. It has very long chapters which sometimes makes it hard when I am reading aloud to Irene, but if I were reading to myself, I'd LOVE it. Okay - this is a few weeks later...the chapters are shorter and we don't want to stop reading! :) The books seemed to lose something in the second book. It was still interesting, but not something we HAD TO READ every night. I might try to get through them again on my own in a year or so - but as a read aloud, I'd have to say this was a bit of a fail. The first book we greatly enjoyed. I just don't know what happened after that... We took a really long break while reading book 3. It was okay. Not a love love love kind of book. A disappointment really.

An intriguing insight into a world that we 'thought' we knew, but after reading, realize that we didn't. A very interesting read (from a woman author no less) into mistresses and their hopes, fears, joys, and travails at court and in the 'back rooms.' Altho sometimes slightly offensive in the descriptions of the treatment the mistress by the king/ruler/whatever, a delightful and sometimes sobering read. From the earliest days at Court until the latest round with Charles and Camilla, this is a good treatise on the 'unspoken' women behind the throne(s).
