let me be something to you. let me be the log you sit on. let me be the dust you wipe away with your hands...Let me be something to you. What is true love if not this?

It was like passer bys watching you suffer and each telling you what to do not to suffer any more. Every one has her/his own formula to escape and it seems none of these formulas work. Jonathan tried really hard. SO what?

I'm pretty sure I read this in fifth grade. I remember not liking it all the much. It is about a boy who is shipwrecked with an old black man on an island. Looking back on it now, my guess is that I didn't like it because I was not interested in boys shipwrecked on islands. Thinking about it now, fifth grade was the first time I had a male teacher and all the books we read (Where the Red Fern Grows, Old Yeller, and The Cay), were all books about boys and boyish things. Hmm, maybe he was going on that idea that girls will read anything. I was still a slow reader at this time, so interest was important to me.

Great stories of how Mark started Mars Hill church in Seattle. Some were funny, others eye-opening, and still others were shocking. I respect Mark's view of Scripture very much.

The ultimate Pop Culture social analysis. Everything from Billy Joel to Nirvana to the Sims gets the Klosterman spotlight shined on it, and in the process, our own shallowness, brilliance, and hypocrisies.
This was a very original and interesting book, especially since we got to learn a bit more about Asperger Syndrome, and see how it was like from someone who has it. But somehow, I got a little bored towards the end. Or maybe it was the way everything was described, it tired me a little at some point.

Lisa See has written another great book-this time a sequel to the Shanghai Girls. This book continues the story of Pearl and Mae through the views of Pearl and their daughter Joy. This story is about the bounds of a mothers love and the willfull actions of the nineteen year old Joy. When Joy runs off to China to be a part of the "great leap forward" Pearl follows her to try and save her. Impeccably researched and written, this book tells about relationships, families and the lengths that people will go to for those they love.
