I discovered this book on an "American Chocolate Week" display at my local library and knew that I had to read this book. In my world, chocolate is the most important food group and I, like author Steve Almond, eat a piece of candy each day. Unfortunately for me, I do not have his super fast metabolism. I loved the book for its originality, use of words like behemoth, and for introducing me to the "chocolate underbelly of America." I now have a desire to buy locally made chocolate from lesser known brands as a way to support small businesses who cannot pay $25,000 rack fees for 'real estate' space in retail grocers and department store chains like the big three candy companies can. I also wish that I was born earlier so I could have witnessed more of the glorious candy making history Steve Almond details throughout this book. I'm also in love with the idea of traveling to candy companies, touring their headquarters and factory floors, then writing about it, but alas, this has already been done. This writer must find her own underbelly to write about. I hated Steve Almond's whiny and random autobiographical antidotes. Sure, they explained his obsession and "freakishness" about candy (and to a point, we as readers do need to know why the author chose his topic), but they were placed in the wrong places and often ruined my flow. I had to step back from the text and regroup before continuing on. I don't like it when I have to do that. It's bad enough life interrupts our reading; I don't need the author doing it to me too. And what's the deal with the self-diagnosis of cancer? He never did wrap up that lose end...but I'm kinda glad about that because I don't think I could handle another reference to him playing with himself.

Excellent material and it flows very quickly. This will be on a regular rotation for me. Lots of it is information that has been taught before but with all of it in one 6 cd set it's a treasure trove of info.

I think that this is the right book.. let's assume it is. I picked this up at the library one day to read. It was really good. I read a few books at the time so I can't remember what this one was particularly like but it certainly was enjoyable. If I can recall, it's slightly sad.. But nonetheless, I remember that I did in fact love this book.

I love Kate Atkinson's mystery novels. "Case Histories" was awesome, as was its semi-sequel, "One Good Turn." Full of complicated characters, multiple twists and turns, and endearing British/Scottish references. Couldn't put it down (seriously)!

Shara Azod is great, she keep the action and love right at the top. I trying to read everything she has written. This author can not put them in paperback fast enough for me. I learn that of all the romance novels I own and read, Ms Azod is one of the best.
