I will never forget walking into a bookstore in Busselton and seeing the intriguing cover of this paperback. I picked it up and read the jacket and went "!@#$%~, this sounds ~!@#$% marvellous!". After I read it I couldn't get enough of Kim Stanley Robinson. I had to go buy/borrow everything else he'd written at that time. The idea that an American could write such a damning scenario about his own country's future just blew me away. I want to see a movie made out of this one!

Another good but overrated book. Starts out pretty well, bogs way down in the long middle section, and overall is too self-obsessed. Like "On the Road," but with fewer characters you care about. It's about poets! Who are, like, rebels! They don't have jobs, they do nothing of importance, and they don't care! ¡Padrisimo!

There is nothing to dislike about this book. It is my default book, the one I pick up if in doubt. Gaiman delivers a complex story as easily as one would make a cup of tea. Pagan myths are beautifully mixed with current issues and I think everyone will take something different away from it.
