Finally! The long awaited sequel to Eon/Eon: Rise of the Dragoneye/Eon:Dragoneye Reborn/The Two Pearls of Wisdom, I think Eona was originally supposed to be published back in 2009 but it is worth the wait. The number of pages can be daunting (a whoping 637 pages), but it's a whirlwind of a story set with betrayal, intrigue, romance, and of course dragons. Eona/Necklace of the Gods picks up maybe a few days or a day after the previous book ended. I know that some people prefer this book because it has more action in it than book 1 (I actually liked all of the world building in book 1 but to each his own, I say). The pacing in this one was just as wonderful as book 1 (for example I thought it would be about the page 300 before we got to see Kygo again - I have a bit of a reader crush on him - and he would have heard of Eona's and her entourage exploits as they evaded Sethons army and just tore up the countryside looking for the true Emperor). Kygo. Mmmm. He was great in the first book strong, slightly unsure of himself as a son of a concubine and emperor worrying that he was too soft to fit his fathers shoes. Yes, Kygo was usurped of his throne by his uncle Sethon (dysfunctional family anyone?) and you really get to see Kygo's authority in this one where he leads the rebellion. But I truly enjoyed the moments of uncertainty in him where he was unsure of himself and his ability to lead. As you can guess, the full cast of characters from Book 1 are back in this one too and a few new ones, too. I was really pleased to see Dela back and a certain Eunuch guard. More revelations abound about Eona's past and Kinra (or was it Kirra? I can't remember). Plus, the whole secret keeping from Eona and Kygo was just brilliant - I liked that it was just about the same secret, too. Also, in book 1 when you first meet the prince, Kygo, I was so hoping for some spark between him and Eon(a). Maybe even a little Coffee Prince moment where he was struggling with his affection with who he thought was another man. I was going to give this book five stars, but I'm giving four for one plot device. The romance between Eona and Ido. I found Ido to be a power-hunger, egotistical, bullyish, creeper. But one of the things that really bothered me about the romance was that in book one when he found out that Eona was a girl he said this: 'Think of what will happen when we are joined not only in power but in body too.' To me that screams he's going to rape her. Then he forced himself on her, kissing her. He did the same thing later on in the book but he was more forceful. So, he emotionally and physically abused. To be treated that way and to turn around and have any kind of romantic feelings for that kind of "man" really rubbed me the wrong way. But alas that didn't take up a lot of pages the romance between Eona and the prince did thankfully. Though, while I was taking a break from the book I had to wonder if Eona's attraction to Ido was because of how her dragon power was corrupting her in the way that it had corrupted him and that's the basis of the attraction? He's the personification of the power she craves to get away from the forced servitude she's always wanted to escape? If so, it brings to mind "with great power comes great responsibility". But overall it was a really enjoyable read and I love the Eastern feel to the book. I really loved this world and would be okay if Goodman wanted to add a third book *wink wink*, but I know that it was only intended to be only two books.

Life has taken a positive turn for Kitty Norville, werewolf / radio talk show host. Her book "Underneath the Skin" is published and soon to be released, her radio show "The Midnight Hour" has good ratings, and she and Ben have settled in as their own little pack. Kitty's life suddenly turns up side down when her Dad calls with news of a family emergency; her Mom may have breast cancer. She and Ben decide to head back to Denver. This brings even more complications to an already complicated situation since Kitty has been banned from entering Denver by the resident werewolf pack, led by Carl and Meg and they will consider this an invasion of their territory. Kitty gets an additional set of problems when she is contacted by her vampire friend, Rick, who says he is planning to take over the city of Denver from the current Master Vampire, Arturo. He asks her to take sides with him and in exchange his people will help her deal with Carl and Meg. Kitty realizes that this will mean a gang war. Initially she is torn between the seriousness of her mother's health problems and the decision to help Rick. Ultimately, she realizes what she will have to do in order to remain near her family. Her friendship with Detective Hardin (head of the Paranormal Division of the Denver Police Department) is a positive point since it looks like there will be a serious rumble. Although this is a stand alone book, those who have read the earlier books have seen how Kitty's character has developed. Once a beta wolf, abused by her pack leader she has grown into a strong woman. Now she is capable of not only helping other victims but taking care of a pack. This series is action packed and gets better and better with each book.
