When folks today whine about some minor problem if their life, they should be forced to read this book. Living in a cramped, smelly, dark sewer for 13 months shows a persons true ability to survive. An amazing story.

This book was a fabulous read! I wasn't sure about it when I started, as it starts off like a YA book (not that I don't love YA books, just wasn't expecting it here). As the book progresses, though, it gets a bit darker, and a bit more mature. By the end, we realize that our 'hero', Quentin Coldwater, is back to immature, but the subject matter has grown around him. He eventually catches up, and it is glorious to read. I've read that this book is a 'mature Harry Potter', but that doesn't even begin to explain it. Yes, it involves magical schools and magic in general, but the characters, the spells, the school are vastly different than the Harry Potter world. In The Magicians, the school is competitive and difficult, and much of the book describes the rigors of learning magic. There is time for fun, as Quentin discovers, but it is a lot of hard work, too. After graduating, Quentin has a hard time adjusting to life outside of magic school. He and his friends end up discovering a world from a favorite childhood story is real, and they find a way to get there. The world, Fillory, isn't all it was cracked up to be in the childhood story, but they soon discover why. The book had me up far too late each night when I read it. I was completely satisfied when I finished the book, which is a rare occurrence, and I am looking forward to reading the sequel.

That's just it. It was ok. Nothing compared to Water For Elephants. Not very much about the Bonobos at all really. I didn't feel like I learned anything like I was hoping to. It was more of a man and woman sort of late thirties job crisis. Not even a touching romance at all actually. The characters were shallow and I really didn't like them at all. I did skip ove one scene about bad things done as research and that was never resolved in the book later. so I would not go out of my way to recommend this book. I would rather have read a straight research paper on the author's own experience with the Bonobo language study instead.

Awsome book. It makes you aware of the extent of the changes taking place in the golbalised world and all the new possibilities it brings with it. This book surely is heavy on content, but that very effectively shows the changing environment in which businesses now have to compete against each other- the competition just got global! The best part about this book is that it explains to us that these changes not just effect businesses but also individuals...in a way nobody could have thought possible. Its only when one reads this book does one realize what exacltly is happening to the world!

I love this story, i let my imagination run away with me in this story and immerse myself in characters. It was so easy to relate to both the main female character who had lost her friend and the strong male character. I mean he dissappeared into a GAME!!, all i think is , that ,would be the most terrifying thing ever!What follows after as the young brother and sister , play the game and are soon faced with life threatening danger , we can only imagine. it was enthralling from start to finish.. without giving the game away, a must read !
