Simply one of the most lucid, base-covering, and dare I say plausible theories of human development and evolution i've ever come across. And if you try to describe it to anyone in conversation, they will look at you as if you are shooting raw blood from your eye sockets. If it were high school curriculum, we'd be playing Badminton on Mars right now.

I am one of the lucky readers that only started the A Song Of Ice And Fire series a few months before this book was released - I cannot imagine how the readers who had to wait many years for this felt. Since it starts as a parallel to A Feast For Crows, it goes on the same pace AFFC - slow. But once again it works, and it builds up to amazing revelations and events. There's a new point of view (which was brilliant of George R. R. Martin to come up with, I am glad we were not done with that part of the story) and a lot more about Winter. Yes, winter is back and coming closer, and it has to be dealt with. It's easy to forget that it's not only the game for the iron throne that's going on here, but there's way worse things to be dealt with. I cannot say how much I am amazed by George R. R. Martin's ability to write such chilling scenes that make your heart race and grab on to the book as if your life depended on it without spoiling - so let's leave it at that. Then again, it's very hard to spoil, because you don't really get a clear picture of what's going on sometimes, and George has made us believe things before that weren't actually true. There's not so much of things getting sorted out on this book, but a lot of things happening and getting you confused and you can tell there were some issues with how the time-line on this would work (I mean, there's a random Jaime chapter in the middle of everything, what else does it do than fitting him in the story time-line and maybe teasing everyone?). I'm glad this beast is out of the way and the next book will only go forward. I guess now we have another three (hopefully not six) years to come up with theories, theories and more theories.

Julie lives a directionless life has her aunt and guardian die and learns that she is not who she thinks she is. Her name is really Giulietta and she is sent on a treasure hunt to Italy to discover the rest about her history and the history of her family. I liked the history parts, about the stories that Romeo and Juliet were based on. But when it turned to talking about Julie's real life everything was very cliche and predictable.

As I've been looking forward to the upcoming presidential election, I've had considerable interest in Barack Obama. Other than the fact that he was born of interracial parents, I'd been intrigued by him I'd heard that he had humble beginnings before becoming a politician. In this book, Obama details his very diverse childhood, having spent much of it outside of the States and having grown up in very different places and having experienced some difficult stretches in his life regarding family. Obama is a thinker and his writing is very honest and compelling. Many times throughout the book I felt that he put into words many of my own internal struggles as a minority in this country struggling to come to terms with my non-American heritage that seems continents away. As I look forward to attending law school and have felt burdened for some time now to advocate the poor and the needy in America, Obama's story has seemed to narrate some part of what I see my future becoming. This book greatly impacted me. I recommend it if you're interested in issues of racial identity and race-relations in America.

I have never been so wrapped up in a story. Read the whole triology in a week and was completely transported. I wept when I finished the book. Can't wait to read this with my kids someday. It's got everything: love, philosophy, metaphysics, excellent character development, well paced plot, really interesting ideas. Um, word of warning if you are a devout Catholic: there is a strong anti-Catholic and general anti-organized religion theme running throughout. Even a lapsed Catholic such as myself was a bit shocked.

To me it felt kind of forced.

Some have said that the author used Balzac's way of describing interior's of houses, and that for this reason, the book should be dismissed. I disagree with this view, and will say that Romanian literature was quite behind western one. It was because Romania was conquered by numerous other countries, and fighting off intruders doesn't really give you time to be creative. When we finally started rising from the darkness, and started writing, of course we sought out the best of the Western culture, and learned from them. Such resemblements of style, sometimes, were inevitable. My advice is that one should try to read this book open-mindedly, and see behind the form, see and understand all the subtext messages. It's an amazing book, and it best describes some quite uncharted conditions of man.

3.5 stars Book 2- sequel to Inside Out In the first book Inside Out we were introduced to a society living in a metal cube, divided into sectors and quadrants, and split into uppers (who ran the computing and engineering side of things), and the scrubs (who lived in cramped conditions and did all the manual labour). Trella led a revolution and overthrew the corrupt Trava family who had put themselves in charge, and started trying to free the workers and create a fairer, happier society. After searching for a legendary gateway to "outside", it was revealed that the metal world they lived in was all that there was and nobody was going anywhere. The teaser line for this book on the front of the book reads "A million miles from home there's something outside and it wants in". This instantly grabs your attention and makes you wonder how that is possible and what is going to happen. So starts the revelations, surprises, betrayals, and plot-twists. Wow, there is a lot going on in this book! This is definitely for people who like their books fast paced and full of danger. Trella whips here, there and everywhere diffusing bombs, plotting rebellions, being patched up after a fight and straight back into the fray again- meetings, spying, sneaking supplies- I was exhausted just reading this book! And I had trouble keeping track of who she is speaking to and where she was at any given time- this book is very... busy. I also thought a map or diagram of the world would have been very helpful as the description of all the different areas of the ship were very confusing. Despite my confusion though, the world- building was very believable and very claustrophobic. You can really imagine the sense being closed in, and almost taste the metal of the walls in the air. Trella is the same girl that we meet in book 1- very tough and determined, and someone who wouldn't hesitate to put herself in harms way to protect others, but who lacks confidence in herself as a leader. Aside from everything that is happening politically, Trella also has to cope with her mixed feelings about her burgeoning relationship with Riley, help her best friends Logan and Anne-Jade restore order in the new society, and try to understand how she feels about her once- traitorous found-again mother. Phew! The best thing about this book is Riley, Trella's on-again-off-again boyfriend, who is so sweet, and really passionate. The pages with both of them together sparkle with their banter, Riley is just very funny and adorable. All the characters in this story are fantastic with lots of humour, sadness, and mixed loyalties. Outside In has a mystery, plenty of action, romance, heartbreak and sabotage. It is a story about another world with technology we can only imagine, but characters that you can definitely relate to and love. It is a beliveable sci-fi story with a heart.
It was way too hard to suspend disbelief and accept the implausible events and characters in this political/medical thriller. The premise -- most of the country's leaders quarantined in the Capitol after a disease exposure -- is a great one. But over and over again, the responses to the situation are illogical and the bad guys display a cartoonlike, Snidely Whiplash kind of evil. After about a third of the book I started speed-reading just to see where it would end up. My first Palmer, and maybe my last.
