Wonderful to learn about the amazing lady behind one of our founding fathers and their relationship. Had no idea the sacrifices she made to support her husband in forming a new nation, and in what she viewed as a hand of "Providence", owing their duty to God,Country,and the Public. I loved this compliment about women from John Adams..."It is by the female world,that the greatest and best characters among men are formed...when I hear of an extraordinary man...I naturally inquire who was his mother? There can be nothing in life more honourable for a woman,than to contribute by her virtue,her advice,her example...to the formation of an husband, a brother, or a son, to be useful to the world." She definitely contributed to her man's accomplishments, and, thus, this new nation, as she shared her political views to Him (he often quoted her to Congress at meetings).

This book was better than I expected it to be. I have grown somewhat disenchanted with YA fiction of late, and this book was better thought out than I have seen for a while in the genre. I did feel that the plot had many holes, and many things that seem to require an explanation seem to be left unsaid. It is almost as if the author took for granted that we cannot see inside her head and just understand what she is seeing. However, I was very pleased to see a more original story than I have seen in YA fiction in a while. I will read the second book in the series.

Published originally by Princess in Japan, which is a sign that this is not your average manga -even their standard ones aren't exactly standard- and it ticks all the right boxes. Extremely well written, beautifully drawn, with a translation that copes pretty well with the difficulties in putting it into English. The basic plot line is that in this school to graduate, you must pass a particular "dream class". To pass the class, in the dream, you have to find the key? Easy, right? Not when all of your damage is open and visible in the dreamworld, when how you are there represents everything you can't deal with in real life. Among the mysteries, as well as what the hell is going on, is who matches up with the dreamworld. Not easy, when one person is an arm, one girl has a whole where her face and chest should be, one is completely incased in armor. Mashiro, the main character, has the opposite problem. In the dream, Mashiro is flatchested, but female, and in reality, Mashiro clings to identifying as male-- despite the growing biological evidence that male isn't the whole story.

I can honestly say I don't remember much of what I read in high school. (maybe that's because I read more cliff's and barron's notes rather than the actual books :-)) I do, however, vividly remember the short story Beaware of the Dog. It's excellent.
