Good old fashioned love story! First half is all about Jennifer, before and after her accident. We don't meet Ellie until the last half and bounce between her life and Jennifer's. Very addicting and I couldn't put it down!

It is a disturbing read, in a good way. It made me think a lot about if I would survive.

Eat, Pray, Love Started listening to the audio version of this autobiographic exploration of self and the world (including at least 2 places I'd love to immerse myself in, probably all three) but ran out of time. Will definitely sign it out again. Love the concept and author's style.

the author tells of her father's life in Manchuria China and how things changed during the Japanese occupation. This book has fantastic watercolors and wood cut prints by the author, one for each chapter.

By far the best Myron book of the first three! The ending is definitely gripping!

Everything is complicated for 12-year old Catherine. She loves her younger brother David, but he’s autistic which means he just doesn’t understand some things and he’s always embarrassing Catherine somehow. The new girl should be the perfect next-door friend Catherine’s always wanted (next door means David doesn’t have to come too), but she seems to have so much more in common with Jason, a wheelchair-bound boy she met at her brother’s therapy clinic, who can only communicate by pointing at speech cards. While Catherine understands that her parents struggle to keep up with David’s needs, she needs them too, but how can she ask them to spend time with her, when she knows David needs them so much more? To help both herself and David figure out some of these confusing things, Catherine keeps track of rules. Some are the rules that David lives by like, “If you don’t have the words you need, borrow someone else’s. If you need to borrow words, Arnold Lobel wrote some good ones.” Some are Catherine’s rules for things David can’t figure out on his own like, “Keep you pants on! Unless Mom, Dad or the doctor tells you to take them off.” But some are just Catherine’s rules for herself like, “Pantless brothers are not my problem.” The story of Catherine’s summer is funny, heartbreaking, thought-provoking and one you’ll never forget. Realistically imperfect characters are the best part of this book. Catherine and David's parents are clearly good parents dealing with a difficult situation, but they also clearly have somewhat benignly neglected Catherine - which even if it's done by necessity makes your heart break for overlooked Catherine. Catherine herself is far from perfect and struggles throughout the book with making good decisions. Jason and his mother are equally well-developedCynthia Lord is the mother of an autistic child herself and the story is grounded in what seem to be realistic details. Definitely worthy of the Newbery honor and yet still appealing to kids. Read for Cover to Cover Book Group in February 2013. Read for Cover to Cover Book Group in May 2009. Previously read September 1, 2007.

Jeremy Hayward is a good writer, the only kind I read. Because he's good I got over the fact that we don't share the same esoteric perception - beyond that, it's a good read.
An evil, abusive father, mistreatment of black people . . . it ought to have been an Oprah Book Club selection. I don’t know how she overlooked this one. Actually, it’s a good story, but it could have been so much better without the heavy-handed racial pandering. The Boatwright sisters are educated, cultured, ambitious, and black. (Let’s not forget Lily’s young black boyfriend, Zach, who wants to be a lawyer.) Then, there are the white people: Lily’s evil, abusive father, the rednecks in town who love beating up black people, and the sheriff who’s always willing to look the other way. Heck, there are a ton of white people who oppress blacks and keep them down. During the story, Lily keeps whining that skin color shouldn’t matter, but if you only read this book and others like it, you would have to conclude that skin color determines everything. Do you want to be sensitive, cultured and well-educated? You’ve gotta be black. Are you white? Sorry, you cruel, insensitive, abusive slobs. Do you want a warm, nurturing environment? Go live with black women. Your wounds will be healed and life’s greatest questions will be answered for you. Don’t get me wrong, I liked this book, but without the race-preaching, it could have been so much better!

Harry bu konuda gerçek bir horoz. Yine de 15 yaşındaki çocukların doğası budur. Büyük son ve Luna'yı seviyorum.
