This is the first Drizzt book, only it's not the first Drizzt book because there was a trilogy published prior to this and these are actually prequels. Only when Wizards was re-releasing them they labeled these as first? Well, I don't know. I read them before the big re-release. I was 16 and thus it gets the "young and dumb, okay" shelf, for which I will never make any apologies. In the intervening decade (did I really get that old? Good grief) I have read many books with more interesting evil societies than that of the drow elves in here. But this is the first, the attempt to show the world of the spider goddess' worshipers and their Underdark magic and whatever, and how Drizzt just doesn't fit in. Drizzt is one of a kind and thus was widely copied in D&D campaigns. I am proud to say I never tried to play a dual-wielding chaotic good drow. You can't really blame people who don't know any better, though.

So Prof. Shapiro edited and contributed to this book (he also teaches Moral Foundation of Politics, which I read this book for). Can I say (and I know I am risking being called a dork) that I love Locke? I think he's brilliant and when I read this, it really grabbed me as a logical and moral way of thinking of human nature and the responsibilities of government.

It was good, not great. I enjoyed learning a little more about the Amish culture. I thought the book was a little shallow. The story had potential, but not the writing had no depth. I couldn't feel for the characters, it lacked true emotion that you would expect from a love story.

This is my first experience with books on tape (well...ok CD) and it took me longer than normal to 'read' mainly because it was in my car and I only have a 20 min commute to work (this includes the drive home). But I have to say that I really liked it and am curious to see what Alexandra does with the next book. I can't wait to see how the characters continue to develop and what will happen next in their lives. If you like books on Angles, good vs evil and that sort of thing this book is perfect. For one of this authors first books it was fantastic and the character development was fantastic!
