** spoiler alert ** You gotta hand it to Nalini Singh...the lady does NOT pull her punches. The Guild Hunter books have all been dark, violent, and intense. Archangel's Blade is no exception. Characters aren't saved from rape by the hero at the last minute, innocents are murdered, and powerful people do whatever it takes to stay on top. It can make for tough reading but it also makes the worlds/characters she creates real and pulsing with life. There is such depth to the stories and even if you aren't a fan of the plot, you at LEAST have to give her credit for that. I have to agree with other reviews and am totally on board with Dmitri staying utterly himself from the first page to the last. It's more like he just gained access to a part of himself that was always there, just locked away. He became more and isn't that what love is supposed to do? My only hesitation seems to be the same thing that anyone else who's read the book has had issue with. It's the one reason why I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars. I grew to really love Honor and wanted her to survive and grab life and love by the balls! By the end of the book, she was able to do that and I was so happy for her. It was blatantly obvious all throughout the book that she was in some way the reincarnation of Dmitri's dead wife. I still don't know how I felt at the end when she basically downloaded the other woman's consciousness like a computer file. I wanted HONOR to be enough for Dmitri. I wanted HONOR to be the woman he loved. And she was...but wasn't. There was no way to separate the two woman at the end. I think the only saving grace is the fact that before Honor fully realized who she'd been, she was able to heal who she is now. She and Dmitri went through a lot as just the two of them and were already on the way to a HEA. I just wish that maybe instead of a full download, Honor could've just made the realization of, "I was this person", as opposed to, "I am this person still". Other than that...LOVED. And really, even that wasn't enough to diminish my love. It's really a very beautiful, harsh story and a fantastic addition to the series. Highly recommend.
