This novel was beautifully written, and even though its characters are fictional, I cried for them many times while reading this book. I loved the story, and found its insight into Chinese culture from a historical perspective to be quite valuable.

Read this when it was originally an on-line story. While this is close to what it was on-line, I think the changes that were made didn't help the story, and in fact hurt it some. It's good still, and I recommend it, but I know it could have been better.

I thought this book was somewhat over rated. I'm not really sure why everyone was talking about it. The author didn't really say anything new and kind of fell into the same stereotypes she was trying to comment upon. However, she did do a really nice job of finding each character's voice.
