** spoiler alert ** I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did, because I read a lot of pretty bad reviews. I guess it wasn't as good as Wise Child or Juniper, but I still really enjoyed it. It picks up after Juniper and Wise Child's escape from the witch-hunt. Cormac and Colman also come along, and the story is told from Colman's perspective. Colman turns out to have doran talents and his accidental scrying vision helps them when they return to Juniper's home in Cornwall. Her aunt Meroot, who was the villain in Juniper, has taken her brother prisoner, so Colman, Wise Child, and Cormac infiltrate their castle as servants, trying to find a way to break him free. One thing I was a little unsatisfied with was Finbar. There was no resolution between him and Wise Child, nor between him and Juniper. I was relieved though that the end implied Colman too would become a doran in due time.

This is one amazing read about Mary Boleyn and her older sister Mary, both trying to win over the affections of King Henry VIII. If you like a GREAT historical fiction, then this is definitely the book for you!

I love historical fiction and Bayard does a fabulous job taking you straight to Restoration France. Some parts a little graphic for me, but I love the air of Poe--I need to read Pale Blue Eye next.

I have read about 100 pages of this book, and just can't seem to get through anymore. I found this author to be so extremely full of herself I can't bear to hear her speak anymore. I think the premise for this book is wonderful - but apparently the author thinks she's pretty awesome, too, and she has no problems telling the reader that what she did was a great thing. If you can get past the author's high-handedness, you will probably enjoy this book.
